Default Nissan's extreme fix

So I go in to my local (and trusted) Nissan dealer here in NW San Antonio with a top issue. I closed my top and after it was closed I noticed something sticking out of the top on the passenger side (top center, where the window meets the top.) It's a plastic guard of some sort, so I pull it out from between the fabric top and the weather striping. (See pics). They had it half a day and let me know that they are replacing the ENTIRE top, frame, bows fabric and all!!

Per Nissan, that plastic guard is not serviceable and will require this!

I'm scheduled for the replacement next week.

Lol, Good to hear you got the better end of the deal. Kind of how Nissan wants you to replace the whole subframe when your diff busing is blown.

That problem is actually quite common, here's a thread if you want more info:

Help, this part fell out of my roadster top, what is it?

My top was replaced (for other reasons) and the plastic guards fell out of the new top after less than 2 years.

Oh and the funny thing is they told my when I picked up the car, 'oh it'll need it again in a year or two because of our hot weather'. I live in San Antonio TX.

Amazing and glad they are replacing them....
I think with the Z not going anyplace they would make a more permanent fix...

I would really love to have an Z convertible, but there is no way I would get one because of the problematic expensive top.
