Default Convertible side caps

Hello guys,

On the each side of convertible top there are square-shaped caps, which open and close. One of them doesn't close when the top is open.
And advice on it?

Hi

I looked at my car & see that the opening & closing of that door is all mechanical. A spring opens it & a cable attached to the rear lid closes it when the top is open. If it isn't closing then I would think that the cable has come loose from it's mounting positions. I couldn't find a picture of it in the 2010 FSM but I did find one in the 2011 manual. It should be the same. Take a look here Factory Service Manuals - NICO Club Go to pages 65 - 67

I would think that a good starting point would be to partially open the top & stop it before the working door closes. Then you can compare the two & see if you can see the problem.
Good luck

Dan

i stopped the top half-open and found out that the cable was disconnected at the lid side. I reattached the cable and tried to finish close the top, but something went wrong, a heard the cracking sound and lid cracked into 2 parts and stuck under the pressure of the closing top. I had to remove the lid and only than could close the top. Not sure what I have did wrong. Maybe it was important to stop the top specifically when it was opening or closing....
I guess I will have to buy the whole trip set now.

Are you going to be able to glue the door back together? It would probably be best to try & use the broken door to troubleshoot the problem. That way you won't crack a new door while finding the problem.
