auto down windows
Hi, new member. Just picked up a 14 base roadster with 14K miles. Got a certified factory program car at a dealer in beautiful shape for 2K less than trade in value. Something to be said for buying a soft top in the middle of the winter on a 15 degree day. 2 questions. When you press and hold the unlock button on the remote do the windows go all the way down or just part way? Car has 6 months left on factory warranty,so if its broken I'd like to get it fixed. Because it was a certified car I was able to get a 5 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper ,including belts and hoses warranty plan, good at any Nissan dealer. Second question, regular or premium? Sales guy said regular is fine if I was not out racing around, manual says premium. The dealer sent it out to a custom shop and put in the Katzskin leather seats they also did the center panel and arm rest on the doors, they also added the heated seat option. Really makes the car look and feel great. Sorry If I posted in the wrong spot

Operation of the windows/fob is in the Owner's Manual. If you didn't get an OM with the car, you can download the PDF on Nissan's web site. IIRC, on my 2009 the windows would roll down until you released the fob button (but it's been a few years and my memory ain't what it used to be).
For a DD that never sees more than about half-throttle, regular gas will probably be OK (the ECM will reduce power output if you start pinging). But who babies a Z? Spend the few extra pennies for premium. Running cheap gas is a lot like using cheap oil - it may work great for a while but not a good long-term plan. IMNSHO, you should only put regular in the tank in an emergency. YMMV

Yes I read the owners manual and watched the nissan video they cut away before the window gets more than a couple inches down. I want to know are they supposed to go all the way down or do they only go down a couple of inches. My wife's 15 Murano goes all the way I was not worried about the cost of the gas ,just trying to clear the two opinions. It won't be a DD we just wanted something for weekend rides in the country

Press the key fob unlock button once and hold it. Doors unlock and windows go down all the way down. Release the button when the windows are all the way open.
I bought my '12 Roadster a few months ago with only 7500 miles. So damn fun. |

Hi & welcome.
I had never used the windows down function before, so I just went out & tried it on my Z. They go all the way down. Premium gas, don't take a chance on regular. Dan |

Yes indeed... You'll will love the car. Had mine since Dec. 09 and love it. Getting a '17 this fall. Perfect road touring car. Nothing like it on the market. Not too small, Not too big, not too expensive.
Boxster - too expensive and small Miata - a toy Mustang/Camaro - Really? Audi TT - too "German" Mercedes SLK - Tiny Chick roadster... Mercedes SL - I wish... BMW Z4 - too expensive, strange proportions BRZ - Too bad - No Roadster...

Congratulations on the roadster, I bought mine in the Fall of '15, right as the weather turned too cold to drive the Slingshot. I drove it once with the top down (home from the dealership) and the wife stole it until it was too cold to do so. Now I drive my truck due to road salt....
On the windows, my drivers side has an issue someone might help with. The remote takes the windows all the way down, no problem. If I open the door the window goes down 1/4" or so, but won't fully close when the door is closed, as in it stays open ~1/16". Up switch does nothing. If I put it down a little then up it fully closes. I reprogrammed the window twice as shown in the owners manual, no improvement. Passenger side of fine. Thoughts? |

The 1/4" drop is so that when the doors are opened/closed the window will form a good seal on the weatherstripping. Supposed to raise again once the door is tightly closed. Not sure if the "trigger" is the door light switch? Mine won't raise if the door isn't totally closed. I don't think it's the one-touch programming that is the issue, but rather a sensor or the door light switch needs adjusting?

Hi Hedgehog
Here is a link to the service manual portion that has the adjustments for the windows. Don't know if this will help, but good luck. Dan http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/370Z/Coupe/2014/GW.pdf |

Thank you for the feedback, this one took a bit to figure out.
The 1/4" guess is way more than either window actually moves, and therein lies part of the problem, although it's probably within factory spec. Upon inspection when closing the doors, the glass on the passenger side clears underneath the seal, then pops itself up and nicely into the middle of the seal and is surrounded by the seal on both sides. All good. The driver's side does not clear the seal and sits on the outside, crushing the seal and not sealing properly. Lowering the window allows the glass to clear the seal, so when it's raised it appears it goes into the middle of the seal and seals properly. Not sure if this is due to window tilt (thanks @OldGuyFla) or the seal being a bit out of position. The good thing is at night the Z is indoors and I leave the windows open 1/16" for ventilation, so the seal is not being crushed continually. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, they led me down the correct path. |
