Default Mishimoto Racing Thermostat getting installed...

Sitting here waiting for it to be finished. I'm sure it will make a huge difference in cooling and keeping oil temps down. With 6k on its clock and the more I learn about this motor this is the first step in maximizing what power is already there. I may in the summer add a oil cooler for kicks but what I've read and researched the thermostat is a massive improvement.

It's too cold. You may find it hard to get the car out of the cold start enrichment. It may even throw codes. Plus, those are notorious for failing closed. You really might want to reconsider anything Mishimoto.

How would it have an effect on oil temps?

The thermostat is way down on the list of cooling mods. Oil cooler and radiator will make the biggest difference. Switching to straight water if the climate allows is big as well.

All taken in gentlemen, thanks for responding. My reasoning, quicker fan turn on, lower temp opening to allow what the cooling system is designed to do, transfer the heat. I want to give the coolant a faster start at a lower temp to do its thing. Mind you, I live in bakersfield where it's f'n hot! This past summer highest temp was 117. Hope it helps in my reason.

The thermostat doesn't control the fan turn on. That's edited through an Uprev tune. Again, that one is too cold. You would have been better served by a radiator or oil cooler, or even just switching to straight water.

Make sure you keep the OEM thermostat so you can switch back if it starts throwing codes for not getting warm enough fast enough.

Drove car post install, mid 60's outside and the oil temps stayed right at 180 or a little below the whole time, heavy foot action and even let it sit in park for 20 minutes after driving the dog out of it, still hovered at 180 degrees.

I still don't know how you expect to see a change in oil temps. Water temps, sure. But once the thermostat is open and the car is at operating temperature, how are oil temps going to be affected?

Also, did they just top off the system with water? It may run a bit cooler just from changing the mix of coolant.

We did this kind of thing when I autocrossed and road raced a 95 corvette. I've also been digging into the motor itself and made dest friends with a nissan tech. The coolant transfers the heat from the motor and cools it via the radiator right, well I want to maximize that. That's why straight distilled water pulls all that heat lowering oil temps and processes it via radiator. I'm following also on instagram some engineers that race out here in California at willow springs and they have performed research on all this stuff, even water wetter purple ice type products. It's all about transfer of the heat. And according to the Nissan tech and our ecu it will trigger the fans earlier due to the coolant actually flowing. He tried explaining the code in the ecu that controls this...at that point I wanted food and to go home.

I thought the fans were controlled just by the table in the ecu that basically increases duty cycle as temp rises. It has a set turn on temp. The table would have to be edited for a new lower turn on point for it to come on sooner, right? The additional coolant flow only occurs for the 20 degrees before the oem thermostat would open. Once open, flow should be the same, right?

I wish I knew but results are this, drove to work today Bakersfield to Valencia 80mph 1hr drive and my oil temps never and I mean never got over 180. In fact they would drop somewhere between 170 and 180. There is something that happens, im experiencing it. I've searched and others report the same, drop in oil temps.
