Default top not going down and warning light on ! PLEASE HELP

Hi guys i own a 2010 Nissan 370z roadster.

One day i put the top down and decided after the top had retracted down that the weather was too hot so i decided to put it back up and noticed that the top would get to the end and retract back about a centimeter. I pressed close a couple more times, it then locked into place. As i drove off i realised a beeping sound and the roof warning light was on. I parked on the side of the road and tried to open it and it wouldn't work, no sound from the motor, no beeps. I called Nissan service so they can check it and they didn't have an available slot for a week.

The day before i took it to Nissan i was driving and realised that there was no beeping and no warning light. I immediately parked on the side and attempted to put the top down. As i was holding the open button i could here the motor but the top only opened about a centimeter. I then held the close button and it locked into place. I tried the open button again and it opened all the way, i thought i was in the clear lol. When i arrived at my destination it started to rain so i put the top back up and realised the same problem (it would get to the end and retract back a centimeter, it then locked into place after a couple of goes with the warning light still on as i drove). I took it to Nissan the next day and they did some checks and a diagnostics test but they couldn't fix it. They did however pass along the codes it gave out which were B1731 (hydraulic state timeout) and B177A ( roof state incorrect). They checked the hydraulic lines and said they look fine. Nissan referred me to a convertible top specialist named "car soft top repair" which are based in Sydney Australia, Artarmon.

If anyone can help it would be deeply appreciated, and i thank you in advance and i apologize for the lengthy post just wanted to give everyone a detailed description.

Thank you.

First of all, I envy your weather in December. My top won't be coming down for at least 4 months!

It sounds like there is an issue with one of the top sensors. It may be faulty, and not reading the open/close position of the top correctly. I would search the forums for the service manual link. You can download a PDF file of the convertible top service manual and browse through that. There is a large troubleshooting section, and it should provide detail on that code. The Nissan dealer should have done that, but I know with the scarcity of roadsters they don't typically handle convertible top repairs, and pass the buck to a separate shop specializing in that.

Good luck!

G'Day Mate, Check out the post titled "370Z top won't move warning light on "dated 12-09-2015. Lots of good info, experiences, wiring diagrams, and a source for repair parts included in the many responses to the original post.
Good Luck Down Under!

I had similar problem as yours last summer, long story short, either the dealer or the top specialist has to locate which sensor is faulty and replace the particular one for you.

I downloaded the top manual mentioned above, trust me you wouldn't be able to do what the manual instructs you to do cos you don't have the knowledge and the tools.

Leave it to the dealer or the top-specialist, let them find out which sensor is at fault.

it's not cheap if you get it from the dealer, but you get the warranty.

I have a feeling the dealers won't know what to do with it so I'm probably going to try the top specialist. Hopefully I can get this sorted soon. Cheers mate 👍
