Top related - Spring loaded flipper door open

Driver side little cosmetic flipper behind seatbelt that is open when the top is up and closed when the top is down is stuck open. Anyone know how this operates?

These tops suck. I need to fix this and get rid of this car. I'll never touch a Nissan again if I can't get this figured out. I have yet to find a dealer who knows the first thing about these cars. I even had one tell me to rotate the tires once.

Well, I haven't fiddled with mine yet, and finding this took some study. When I get a chance I'll poke it a bit to see if I'm right about how it works.

For now:

Do you have the Service Manual? (Available as a download on here.)

If so, check INT-78. (Interior section page 78.)

If not, download it and then check INT-78.

You are looking for the bottom-most picture on the page.

2 is your "cosmetic flipper".

You should be able to look right in it at this stuff. Check A, B, and 1. Are A and B connected. Is 1 broken?

The "back trim assembly" (their apparent name for it) appears to be spring loaded to open, then pulled closed by the spring assembly 1. I'm guessing it's normally pushed open by the bow for the top, and simply aided by the spring, or the AB1 assembly is relaxed as the bow raises, again aided by its hinge spring.

Again, just guessing here, but if AB1 is not properly attached or broken, it wouldn't close the door.
