Default TMV or NADA/KBB

Quick question: When shopping for a car, should I be basing my expectations off of; true market value or NADA/KBB? I am curious because the difference between the two can be pretty substantial.

For instance, 2009 Nismo 24000mi
TMV: 21800
NADA: 29700

Let me know what you think.

I use KBB's trade in value

EDIT: I don't think they post trade in for the Nismo, use sport+touring's price

I recommend the truecar site to see what people are really paying. Your questions needs clarification too. A dealer will use what ever is out there that will fvck you out of the most money but if buying from a private party...well, I'll use whatever site to advertise to get the best bang for the buck and make you think you are getting the best deal.

Take the average price on all the sites and use some research on here to see what folks paid or sold their rides for. And after it's all said and done, all that matters is if you are happy with the deal you got. Inevitably someone out there will always get a better deal than you so don't walk away with buyer's remorse.

The true car value can also be used for used vehicles also. I like to do all of my research before I even start dealing. Thanks for your input.
