While I am a huge donut fan, to be quite fair, these guys are backyard mechanics at best, and if a cheap turbo kit would be given to a proper mechanic, it would be installed way better and more reliably.

How much is your time worth? Are you wanting to run the risk of developing solutions on the fly as they are discovered, or do you want something that is more "plug and play", where everything is there with all the engineering already done for you? Ask yourself how much risk you are willing to take. Then determine if the money saved is worth that.

Not to thread jack - but typically at what HP does the car usually lose its usability in first and second gear? Meaning - can't keep or get the power to the wheels.

Stock?? If you mash the throttle even in stock form your going to lose grip in first. You can have over 800 and still be drivable as long as you drive knowing you have 800hp+ and don't over do it.

That being said - you're right - ebay turbo kit will be surely missing flanges, mounting points, hoses, many other bits and pieces you'll need to either get extra or fabricate yourself. And a reliable mechanic would make it fit, although his labor would probably approach prices of proper bolt-on kits. I'm not sure though, what Slovenia or the price of mechanic shops here have to do with this discussion though. |

OP - To answer your question, from the individuals I've spoke to (or met) that owned either the Boosted ProjectZ or Gonzevo kits (the other inexpensive turbo kit), including the owner of the kit being sold a while back when he first installed it, I haven't ran into any personally that weren't pleased with their purchase beyond the wait times (which is to be expected).
So, as long as you have a competent shop install it (or DIY), all the parts are present, and you have a good tuner, I don't think you'd have many problems that anyone else buying an off the shelf kit wouldn't experience. |
