Regular or full synthetic oil change?
I bought 2011 370z with 4500 miles few months ago. Now it's at 6500 miles. So I'm going in for oil change soon and just wanted some opinions. I drive about 15k miles a year. I'm doing first oil change for the z and not sure which way is better way. Should I buy my own filter and oil then take it to the mechanic?
Thanks |

Here's the tl;dr version: as long as you use a good-quality filter and oil (see the multitude of previous posts on the subject for some examples of "good-quality"), it doesn't make that much difference for a DD.
From what I've seen, you pay about the same in the end. But that probably varies a lot, depending on the shop and your relationship with them. Best thing I can tell you is to call some of the shops in your area and ask for pricing.

Welcome first and foremost
Now with the formalities out of the way I would encourage the use of the advance google search This will help in finding multiple existing threads on the topics you are looking answers for. Now to your question You can take your own Full Synthetic oil and premium filter and have them charge you for just for the labor If they can provide you with a better price for Full Synthetic oil and filter? thats fine also. "Any" quality Full Synthetic will work fine. Full Synthetic is required to keep the VVL as quiet as possible, and at a 5k interval oil change? You should be fine. |

... here I was thinking you'd shuy this thread down in a split second. Oh how wrong I was.
Anyways, OP, switch over to synthetic. Nissan recommends either their Ester Oil, or Mobil 1. It's 5W-30. You can use other brands, but as long as you have good oil in there, you'll br fine. Personally, I've had success with nissan's Ester, Mobil 1, and Castrol. |
