Can anyone help me out with shiping car parts?
I've never shipped such a large item before. I'm wanting to ship carbon fiber front lip, and I have no idea how to get rates, where to find packaging, or even how to package the item. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

UPS store if you're in doubt. A front lip isn't too big to ship

where can I get rates on how much it'll cost to ship to another state? I used an online one entering in dimensions on fedex - are these accurate?

As long as you gave them the correct dimensions and weight, chances are those rates should be accurate. As for packaging, you may want to take it to a FedEx/Kinkos or some other pack and ship store. They can either do the packaging for you (potentially risky, depending totally on how good the employee is, and I will say that they are not all good), or maybe give you some ideas.
One suggestion you may want to look at would be to find some large pieces of Styrofoam, maybe 12 to 16 inches long and the height and width matching the front lip, to tie or tape to the inside edges of the 2 corners on the lip so that they don't flex as much. Then put some basic packing material to fill in the middle gap, then try to wrap the whole thing in bubble wrap or foam wrap just to keep it from getting scratched. Then, either try to find one big box for the whole thing to sit in (difficult, I know), or take and cut smaller boxes and try to fashion them together to make an outer packaging for the whole lip. It may not look necessarily pretty, but as long as you did it right it should protect it, which is what really counts. Best of luck to you anyways!

Styrofoam blocks on each end, healthy amount of bubble wrap and tape and should be good to go. Could a Always get a bunch of boxes and construct your own make-shift box.

Maybe I should help you out by making a lowball offer and picking up your lip?
I would check with one of the fedex kinko or ups store locations. They will package it for you, but I know theres an extra charge. |

if you want to go cheap, go to an appliance store (or homedepot ) and ask for empty fridge boxes they no longer need. and make your own box.
yet another homedepot mod... |

Make sure its well protected then cut up a few boxes to make one for your lip, doesn't have to be pretty as long as its providing protection.
