Default why are front air vents blocked on 2013/14?

I have my bumper off to install an oil cooler and to figure out how to do some brake cooling ducts. I find a piece of plastic screwed onto the back of the grill blocking about 10 or 20 percent of the outboard section. Why wouldn't Nissan want all the air the opening could provide?

cause unless you direct the hoses directly to the back of the brake discs it's useless.

He's not referring to brake ducts, he's referring to why they're just not open.

Removed or not it looks 100% the same. It's just a block off plate like in front of a cooler.

Thinking about it I bet they're good to stay there for winter, remove for summer.

That is what I was thinking, maybe too much cool air in the winter. Thankfully I am in Florida and will take them off and allow all the cooling possible to reach the radiator. If you watched GT academy, Nissan actually added large round air inlets above the bumper to get a huge amount of air in there.

Good find, I will definitely have to remove these when I remove my bumper.

Dear OP.

Look at your profile on the left of your posts. What's with the "Drives: on the edge" business? I am afraid that is copyright infringement. My attorney will be in touch soon.

By the way, what oil cooler are you installing?

My guess is the plates are there to better direct air to the radiator. When I installed the plumbing for my brake ducts, I had to remove all of that, and there doesn't seem to be any adverse effect.

I know a portion of it has to be removed to install the Z1 25 row oil cooler as well.

Hope that helps. Synolimit has done a ton of mods to his car, most thoroughly detailed for all of us (). I would suggest going through some of his threads as they help explain a lot about the car that you don't realize until its in pieces.

So does it look like you could take the covers off and direct air via ducts up towards your CAI? I was wanting to do that but didn't see the thread about it until after I installed my G3's. I know '09-'12 guys have done that but wondering if it possible now that the fangs are deleted. I have a '13 but haven't had the front off since I did the G3's.

I read where Nissan has no brake ducts in order to have better MPG, so these plates may fall into the same category.
