More low end torque?
Hi
I'm not a mod'er in general and love my Z but want a more aggressive sound. I love the factored sound but want something a bit more. Not obnoxious but more throaty. For reference i have never owned a car over 200hp and have had Lexus/Honda. I'm in my mid 30s and an office professional who someone's drives clients in my car to lunch etc so I want something that while sounding better does not make me look like a high school kid. :-). No offense high school kids. I would like loud exhaust etc but just can't do it anymore TIA

Sorry I realize my post title does not math my message body.
What I should have mentioned is that it seems most intakes and such that give you better sound compromise low rpm torque and I don't want that. Any options in that scenario? Thx

So you want more intake noise or a louder exhaust?
This car is loud enough and if you're taking clients around I would skip the exhaust and just go with an intake. You'll get a throatier sound and keep the torque. My $. 02

Uncool.
I was not born in this country either. I was born in Yokosuka, Japan and I'll happily intellectually eviscerate anyone, such as yourself, who makes ignorant statements such as yours. Grow up and try to be part of the solution, not the problem.

Would you be losing power if you got cold air intakes with stock exhaust, would it affect the car in a negative way at all . Intake and exhaust arnt so cheap to buy at once , when you have bills lol just wondering

No its shouldn't affect it in a negative way at all. In fact many of us added a cold air intake for the extra hp. If you wanted somthing subtle you could do CAI and maybe a stillen exhaust or the oem nismo and not break the bank.

Maybe switch out the resonators? I did a small experiment and went and bought a G37 midpipe and G37 muffler. The G37 resonator section in the midpipe is longer than the 370z resonator, it gives the Z a growl now everytime I turn on the ignition. You cannot hear the difference TOO well in-cabin (slightly, you can hear it slightly different), but when you go inside the tunnels, it sounds like a lambo (in my opinion). Very aggressive.
I decided NOT to install the G37 muffler because the noise was like a hybrid between the 370z exhaust noise and the G37 exhaust noise. It's what should have been in the first place. total cost: $160 As far as noise goes, it's SLIGHTLY louder or rather, more noticeably louder. I wish I could compare it with the stock exhaust noise, side by side. |

See if you can find someone with a Greddy Ti-C exhaust. I love mine. I'm just like you - 36, work in an office and live in a neighborhood with older neighbors I try not to wake up each morning.
In stock form (with silencers in) Ti-C exhaust gives the car a nice deep tone. Not overly aggressive or loud. No drone when cruising the highway and very minimal when lightly accelerating in top gear (35mph in 6th gear for example). Like i said I'm really happy with it. It was exactly what I was looking for, deeper and louder without being obnoxious. Easy to have a conversation without shouting. Combine this with softer/quieter tires (I'm currently running Continental DWSs) and a little sound deadening material (I've got Second skin SPL tiles and luxury liner in mine) and the car feels even better. To me it's perfect now. Refined and smooth like a Lexus or Audi when I want it to be, but still fast and fun to throw through the twists. I've seriously fallen in love with my car again. With the silencers out it's a whole different beast. I tried it for 2 weeks. Very loud all the time. sounds really mean. But also hurts your head after 30 mins of driving. There are better performing exhausts out there, but this one was perfect for me and sounds just like what you're looking for. Last edited by TXSpeedDemon; 10-28-2013 at 10:09 AM. |
