steering wheel lock help
hi guys,
i am sorry to repost this topic again, but i read most of members thread and my situation is a bit different. i really need help. I have a nissan 2010 370z base model. Manual.its at 30,600 mileages when it happened. here is my situation, i went to my car to start the car, however it didnt start. I keep trying and nothing.. Then the light on the start button says lock and my brake pad got lock as well. I check to see if its my battery by turning all the lights on. The light works. i went to search it up and based on what ppl are saying its the steering wheel lock problem. i read it and did what ppl said, to remove the fuse 48 next to the battery. I did that and nothing happen. Because not many ppl explain exactly what they did so ill explain it here. First, i remove the ground and the power from the battery, not many say they did that or not. I then remove the fuse 48 next to the battery, then i plug the ground and power back to the battery, still nothing. I cant start the car or it to go to accl. I cant get out of the lock. i have not try to remove the fuse 48 when the ground and power is on the battery. So after it did not work, i thought it was the battery, so i went to buy a new battery, repeat it again and still nothing happen.. I then realize when i plug back the power and the ground there isnt a strong spark. I am wonder if thats the problem. This is a new battery by the way. |

The fuse removal has to be done BEFORE you have failure, not after.
I believe the only way to get it out of lock is for Nissan to reset and replace the lock. Those with more experience will have to way in. |

Often, the lock just gets stuck and needs a little persuasion to retreat fully. But, yeah, if the lock has failed completely, it's tow truck time.

My understanding is that it is like a solenoid & you might be able to tap on it a little bit getting it to extract. If it does release, remove that fuse pronto Good luck

I was at my dealer this Wednesday getting my brakes pads replaced. While there the service writer came to me and told me about a recall for the steering lock. I informed him that they had already replaced my unit with the 4th. version and that soon after that I pulled the fuse. He did not know about the issues with other 370's and thanked me for the info. He said that in the future he is going to tell others about the fuse.
If yours is a '10 with less than 40K on it, it will be a warrantee repair anyway. Let them replace the steering lock, then follow the directions in this forum and pull the fuse. You will hever have to worry about it again. AZ Roadster

I have a 2010 and had my steering lock replaced for free under a factory recall on it. Just before the recall, I bought the jumper cable fix for the steering lock problem. I haven't used it since I got my recall notice at about the same time I bought the cable.

Remove the lock (see DIY section)
Jumper the contacts (again in the DIY area} Drive on, no cost to you.
