Default I Searched, I Found......now what do I do???

I've been "casually" looking for a Roadster for the past several months. I have owned my 370Z Coupe for a year and before that had an '07 350Z Roadster. Since I had both, I can say that I prefer the Roadster. Today, I not only found one with my top choice in color (blk cherry), it also has Navigation which I have been wanting. To sweeten the pot, it also has the Sports Package. If this isn't my dream Z, it's pretty darn close. The Roadster has 26k miles and they are asking $26,900. Through internet communication, they are offereing me just over $20k for my trade...370Z Touring Coupe, CY in perfect condition. The Dealer who has the Roadster is about 3 hours away. I don't want to waste my time going down there if they aren't going to make a deal. Any suggestions?

Basically, do all of your dealing via email. That way it's in writing to what you agree upon. That's what I did for mine (had to fly up to Vegas for it). You could always request to put a deposit on it to hold it once you agree upon the pricing/payments, etc.

I had to go to Vegas for mine, as I said, and sent my contact an email prior that I was purchasing plane tickets only if the car I had been talking to him about and agreed to on pricing/payments would be there, and he had to pick us up from the airport.

There aren't any 100% guarantees though, as some dealers can be shady. I printed my emails and brought them with me in the case he tried to change pricing on me, etc., but he didn't and was cool as ****. In & out and on my way home (with test drive) in about 1.5hrs.

Also, since you have a trade it may be a little different, as they probably have to inspect your car, etc.

It really was. I brought my Dad with me, because he has the ability to be more of a hardass and haggle with pricing, etc. than I (I had to come prepared, ya know?), and he was shocked at how fast we were in and out. Said that this was the best car buying experience he's ever had, etc. etc.

I was thinking the finance guy was going to try to push stuff, but he didn't.

I may just buy cars that way in the future.

Sounds like it was a great experience! I just emailed the dealer and told him what I was looking for....money wise! We'll see what they say! By the way...being a dad myself, and soon to be a grandpa.....get something nice for your dad for Father's Day!

I would do all the dealing via email and phone since it's so far away. That way you have it in writing. If everything sounds right, make the trek, test drive the car, and then proceed with the purchase with the terms laid out via email. Just don't get too attached in case the dealer suddenly changes the pricing or can no longer to a certain pricing.

As much as I want a car, I have no problem walking out in the middle of negotiations after several failed attempts with the dealer to find a comfortable compromise for me.
