Wasn't there an exploding airbag issue? I was looking at mending it, as I have factory airbags, but I have a feeling I'm late to that party...

There was a recall on Takata Air Bags, however, this wasn't limited to Nissan only, but rather all car manufacturers that used them.

Go get it changed. A recall is mandatory for the manufacturer to address without cost to the customer, at least it is in the US.

Fill out the form here at NHTSA https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

From the info. I've received from Nissan they were voluntarily removing undeployed passenger bags from 370Z's for inspection.

My 2010 reads 0 recalls, 1 investigation and 108 complaints.

He would most likely have to find the nhtsa-equivalent for his country, as I believe the nhtsa only applies to the US.
