Hi Guy's.
Need thoughts on a certain procedure. I currently have the 56" 10.8degree 2 piece race ramps. What I'd like to know is, if i were to get the 8" wheel cribs, could I lift REAR up FIRST, place wheels/car on cribs, then jack front and place on front section of my race ramp? I know, going the other way is an absolute NO NO. Even before the infamous you-tube video, I knew of the hazard. My concern with doing it in first procedure is, can those wheel cribs potentially "kick out" or start sliding? There should be enough weight at back and rotation about rear axle, that it essentially becomes my pivot point. Has anyone done something similar? my Ramps: https://www.raceramps.com/garage-ser...ace/p/rr-56-2/ Wheel cribs: https://www.raceramps.com/garage-ser...ibs/p/rr-wc-8/ |

Personally, I would not feel comfortable doing that without a spotter to keep an eye on the cribs during the process.
Also, are you planning to jack the front up using the pinch rails? You won't be able to access the center jack point with a floor jack when the rear is lifted. With all four wheels on the ground I have to drive one front wheel onto a short piece of 2x6 or larger laid flat to get the clearance I need to access the front jack point and lift the whole front end at once.

I agree, all in all, a risky proposition. My alternative is to use my quick jack to lift and then lower onto wheel cribs. I wouldn't be doing alone. Only issue may be QJ doesn't like to lift or lower without a load. Its a small distance, so I think it should be ok. Reason i'm doing is, i need weight on wheels but access to under car. |
