Default Question about mechanics quote

So recently something went wrong with my z. The alternator wasnt charging the battery and I realized it was the charging system that had gone bad tahnks to the help of some people on here. I dont know jack about car electronics so i took it someone who did and they diagnosed my car and said that my ecu and fuse box (near battery} are bad. He gave me quote of $1100 for the repair and said the the ecu alone from a JUNKER was gonna cost me $600 plus the cost of the fuse box and labor ($370). I was curious so i searched online and i saw a lot of listings <$600 for the ecu and the fuse boxes <$100. Sooo seeing these prices made me build some doubt so im asking you guys. Is his quote reasonable or is he trying to bs me?

Did they say why the fuse box is bad? Melted? Water damage? It' not typical for those to just go bad.

Normally the regulator goes out on the alternator which causes under/over charge scenarios.

Sounds a bit suspect to me. You can always get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from another mechanic. There are a number of very competent shops in your area that know Z cars very well and will treat you right.

Ever hear of Saul of Nismo Knights? I believe he's in your area but could be wrong. Large social media clout following but still very knowledgeable about the Z platform.

There are a bunch. I don't live in the area and don't remember them off the top of my head. Rather than do your research for you, I'll just suggest that you go search. Check the California section of the forum.

Specialty Z does repairs also. The only part that could conceivably be bad is the fuse block by the positive terminal, but I doubt that. It is probably one of two fuses on that block. Take it Specialty Z.
