Will the 370z be another Miata?

ALRIGHT calm down, not the new Miata but I'm thinking the Z can be in a different class of cheap to track sports cars which IMO has not been taken

Default Will the 370z be the new Miata?

ALRIGHT calm down, not the new Miata but I'm thinking the Z can be in a different class of cheap to track sports cars which IMO has not been taken by any other car definitively other than the Miata. The reason why I think this is because the 370z was made over a number of years and it is now made from 2009-2020 and has remained pretty much the same since 2009, which would make the parts plentiful(For example the XJ Jeep). Not only are the parts in abundance but the car itself is a very good driving car especially with some mods. Is it as balanced as the Miata? No, but it offers a different driving experience which I think is a class above the Miata, and the 370z is a blank canvas and you can make them what you want like a drag car, boosted, autoX, drift, or a track car and they are very reliable. I already see a bunch of Z's at the track, which reinforces my philosophy that this car can be one of those track toys that a lot of people will desire in the future because of the driving dynamics and are relatively cheap to own. I've had mine for 5 years and ill be keeping it as a part of my collection of JDM cars long as I live.

I almost deleted the app after I saw the title... Makes sense though.

Pretty much already there, IMO. When I was part of the FB groups I was blown away by the amount of owners with Salvage/Rebranded titles. And they were using them as DDs, not necessarily drift machines or for auto-x.

The Z has plenty of love from the young driver crowd. If only they stopped crashing them. Plenty of new Z drivers do, as it’s their first RWD vehicle and usually a major jump in power from their FWD econoboxes.

IMO keep crashing 'em, less on the road and more cheap OE Parts available.

No, the 350z is still in that spot. Though the joke was always "when with the 350z be the new civic". I still remember that from "my350z" forums, back in 05-06. Im not entirely sure the 370 will reach that title, as long as there are plenty of 350zs to go around.

I agree I would consider the 350/370z in the same boat I just excluded the 350z from this post because the 370z has been largely the same over its lifetime. The 350z has had some changes but I would definitely put the 350z there since most of its parts are interchangeable as well even with the updated versions. I think the 350/370z will slot nicely into their own category and have the price differences of an NA vs NB Miata once the 370z depreciates even more.

No. Even to have a chance it would have to have triple it's sales figures and then you'd still need to wait about 10 to 15 more years. Second it's not cheap to run and not easy to work on. Fuel, tires, brakes all last much longer and cost much less. Low weight, low initial cost, high volume made the Miata and cars like it very popular at the track.

LMAO, the Miata is the most raced car in the world bar none!

I time trial an NB. Love that damn thing.

The 370z will not be Like a Miata or early model BMWs. It fits better with the c5 Corvette and early boxer. Check out Everyday Driver, they did an episode on the best cheap sportscar with some power and they compare the three I just mentioned.

To be a cheap track car, it needs light weight and low power, lead to cheap consumables (Pads, tires, small wheels, etc). Z doesn't that bill.

Mazda has gotten better over this years though since they fortunately dropped Ford like a bad hat. Although the 370Z is in a class by itself really closely comparing to the older model Porsche Boxer I would agree! Close to the Corvette too I know a few C5 and even C6 Corvette owners how have sold their bow ties to get a Nissan 370Z because they were tired of paying Corvette tax lol. I give the 350Z and 370Z credit and would never compare it to a Mazda Miata. For what you are paying for the 370Z model is a very nice vehicle to own and is probably the closest vehicle comparing to the Porsche Boxer you will find which speaks for itself. Mazda has a Japanese shareholder now so the quality control of the Mazda has improved coming from the older Mazda Miata. I still would support Nissan/Infiniti.

This is a fantastic point I agree the Z is not as cheap as the Miata and it's also not as easy to work on but I would also argue that it is not as hard to work on with some basic set of tools. But I also said it would be a class above the Miata so naturally, the extra performance will come at a greater cost but IMO still affordable compared to other cars with similar performance. Also, I haven't looked at the sales figures for the 370z but I'm sure that Miata is more mass-produced, but I would add the amount of G37's made since most of those parts are interchangeable with the Z. I guess the whole point of my original post is that the Z can be a good track car in the future that becomes an option in a class above the Miata, not Miata cheap but still a great track car with good driving dynamics and a lot of parts behind it that are available when something breaks and something that maybe high in consumables but something that is a really good driving car that doesn't break the bank for a track car.

Funny when people disrespect the Miata it's a great car!! Also, I watched that episode on everyday driver which got me thinking and led me to my original post because I would hands down rather have the Z than those two cars for the track.
