370z value
Thoughts on the pricing on used 370 when the newest model hits the streets. Unfortunately for me I'm about a year out from purchasing a new home and for credit reasons have been told to wait before I buy any additional vehicles. If this is the last of the NA motors do you guys foresee a spike in prices, decrease in value or stay about the same? FWIW I'm torn between the Z and a C5 vette. The vettes are nice as owned one in the past but the Z really checks all of the blocks. Thanks for any opinions.

I don't see the value of the 370Z spiking. When the new vehicle comes out, some of the current attention will shift and new attention will be generated.
As far as the Z vs. Vette question is concerned. Get what you really want and can afford. What does your gut say?

bcrider,
I'm 71, have been retired since I was 51, am still madly in love with my Bride of 45 years, have owned a few Z's, a vette, and a multitude of various antique and other cars over the years .... and I've been where you find yourself now. I wanted the hot cars when I started out too, and really couldn't afford them back then. Years of biding my time, working hard, putting away some nest eggs, and staying frugal paid off. We found ourselves able to enjoy some toys over the years, and enjoyed ourselves without getting stupid. Then when we both retired we found we could afford pretty much whatever we desired within reason. My advice is to forget about the vette and the Z and aim at what you need to do to get financially stable and get that house. Its the mature thing to aim for. Property always goes up in value, cars almost always don't. The house will give you equity, the cars won't. Then when you are on firmer ground, say 5 or 6 years down the road, you can search out that toy you want. (A friend of mine just found a 2001 Miata with 38 000 km for $11 000. Its pristeen. I sold my 27 year old Nissan 300ZX NA to a 30 year old in order to buy my 370Z It had 81 000 km when I sold it to him.) The cars you want will still be out there, some searching will be required, but you'll be in a much better stance to afford it and not regret it, not to mention it may also be much cheaper to own. Its your choice whatever you decide. Just don't get yourself in a bind that strangles what you can enjoy in life. The Best to you! Gene |

Gene has solid advice and I'm close to the same age (69 & also recently retired). The difference is that I have owned and driven Zs since graduating from college and they have brought more smiles and joy than I can fully express, and certainly more than anything outside of my marriage and family. I'm not sure where that passion originated, but the '72 240Z I bought around your age undoubtedly ignited it.
My feeling is that a good life is all about being in a position to make your own choices. So many people lose that ability because they make poor short-term or momentary decisions that trap them - sometimes for their remaining life. I have been very fortunate to have been able to "have a bit of it all". As I reflect back, there's lots of things that had little do with my actions (starting with the absence of unfairness and tragedy that impacts so many); but probably the most important thing I could control was patience. So, while you are saving for a house, you can probably also start saving some smaller about for this car. That undoubtedly means being willing to sacrificing other things (dining out, entertainment, etc). You don't need to cut them out completely, but you might be able to reduce by 50%. The point is - it is possible to do both if you are patient to save towards it. Also, you may find that after you've invested the time and delayed gratification, when you've reached the goal where you are able to buy, you will find yourself being much more selective in making a good choice, rather than rushing to fall what looks like the "good deal". There is ALWAYS someone selling because they have to because their trying to escape the trap their in from a short-sighted decision. I was able to get my current 2016 Nismo because the original owner decided it was too small and uncomfortable after 3500 miles. Oh, and just to provide a small glimpse into the joy that my Z passion has given me, here's a recent pic from certainly one of the best days of my life. You're almost there with the house. Might as well see that through, as the market is probably stagnant. Maybe it wasn't the hardest climb for you to get this far, but for a lot of people, it is.

I would definitely put the next car purchase on hold while you are shopping for a house. I am myself debating whether or not I should keep putting money into my 370z or keep the money for the new 400z. I will have to test drive the new platform before buying it for sure. I might wait a year or two in order to have a "flawless" or close to unit. We all know first years of a new model always have issues. Hopefully, if Nissan uses the 3.0TT from Infinity we should get a reliable 400z.
