J Codes
I bought my 2012 370Z touring convertible the end of October 2019, I went to the dealership for an oil change yesterday and the guy helping me was super excited because mine is a J code, I know what it means, was just wondering how common or rare this is with the Z's?

As I remember my research ,all of the 370Z VIN's start JN, i.e., made in Japan.
I spot checked an Altima and it's VIN started with 1N. I used to have a link to a VIN look-up, but it has disappeared. Kirk B. Last edited by crazy4oldcars; 02-13-2020 at 12:04 PM. |

All the VINs for a Z shipped to the USA start with J, they are all made in Japan. Nothing rare about that. It would be unusual to have a RHD 370Z in the US.

If you are referring to the J at the beginning of the VIN number, there is absolutely nothing special about it. That is simply part of the manufacturer designation. For USA and Canada VINs, the designation JN1 identifies the vehicle as a Nissan. This post has an excerpt from the FSM for reference:

Maybe he thinks it's a Maxima.
https://www.nissanhelp.com/diy/common/nissan_vin.php Edit: The only other "J-code" I'm familiar with is the early-1970s Mustang 429 engine. Let's us know if you have one of those under the hood.
