Default Carfax Report

So apparently I get free Carfax reports for life since I bought my car CPO (probably only for my vehicle only) and was reading through the details.

1. It says that the transmission (6MT) was replaced, then in another line it says the transmission was removed and installed, all at 20.9k miles. Kind of a dumb question, but does this mean that the fluid inside is good until 50k miles? I’m assuming they wouldn’t transfer the fluids lol.

2. I get there maybe be some variables and the lack of details is making me wonder: what could have happened for the tranny to be replaced at 20k miles?

3. At 25.8k miles, it states the clutch master cylinder (not the csc) was replaced. Is the cmc also known to go out?

Sounds like it's time for a CMAK...

Sounds like the jobs in questions were done at a Nissan dealership. I say call the dealership and get the detail service history, which should include the customer’s complaints/symptoms and the remedies/diagnosis/jobs performed.

Yes, work was done at a Nissan dealership. Would they still have those records around? This was approx 4 years ago. Even if they did have it, would they be willing to release the info to me?

My 6th gear synchro started to go at around 15,000 miles. It had nothing to do with the way I was driving. I baby my Z. Its easier to replace the trans then it is to swap out the synchro. There are several threads on here about transmission issues. If you dig around a bit, you'll come across them.

Yes the records are there. I haven’t had any problem pulling the records. In fact, my Infiniti dealership made full history accessible online for the current owner of the vehicle. Not sure how it is done at your dealership.

They'll never say yes if you don't ask.

Words to live by. I've never gotten so much that I thought unlikely until I started following this approach.

Another good motto along those same lines, depending on the authority you have to answer to if things go wrong...

It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Not sure that it's better but it is often much easier.
JARblue and BettyZ like this.

Thanks for the responses! It’s been over a year since I got my car and no issues, and just happened to really read through the carfax report.

Actually all of the available online reports are using pretty the same data sources, basically it's NMVTIS database. The difference is how they format and present that information to you. Plus, they put some stats data like average market price, manufacturer recalls, etc. One should always remember that there won't be any info on accident or on other issue if the owner has not reported it to authorities / insurance company. You may compare all of available reports and see how identical they actually are:

Carfax - https://vini.az/en/report/SAMPLE-CARFAX
Autocheck - https://vini.az/en/report/SAMPLE-AUTOCHECK
Almost raw NMVTIS - https://vini.az/en/report/SAMPLE-SALVAGE
