You could always try finding a salvaged one or just use Google.

mikeshay,

There are some parts available for the top from Nissan, but not all. That's the good and bad news.

The top mechanism is very technical with so many individual hydraulic rams (8), each one with one or two sail switches, and so on. Nissan recognized that few service techs would be able to truly fix the system correctly, simply because there are so few Roadsters they wouldn't gain enough experience to competently service them accurately.

So to prevent top repairs from coming back time after time, they opted to have a solution that guarantees a fix every time..... sell a complete top mechanism. Some Nissan dealerships (larger ones) will tackle trying to do a repair if they have a really savvy service tech. Most don't, so you get the response you received from your local dealership.

You can buy the top cloth/back window, the inner liner, each of the bows, weatherstripping, the various bungee cords, the wiring harnesses to each ram, but NOT the rams, hydraulic lines or sail switches. (I'm sure I missed some items in both lists.)

That said, Top Hydraulics out of Washington State can rebuild the rams, hydraulic lines, and the pump, and a good shop that repairs convertible tops can usually correct the breaks in the wiring (occur at hinge points where the top opens and closes).

Don't give up. Check out the Roadster section of this forum and read up on all of the top threads. There is a wealth of knowledge there that may point you in the direction you need to go to get a fix, without breaking the bank, or selling the car for a loss.

While there, check out the guys who have the FSM with the Roadster section. You need a copy.

I recall there being a thread on the convertible section about a hard top being developed similar to those available for the S2000s and MX5s

A hard top would be awesome! I would find a soft top from a salvage yard or part out that would be your best bet. Some upholstery shops get cheaper materials and don't last to long, at least in my experience.
