Horn Short
Greetings all. I pull my 2010 roadster out form winter storage and took it to the detailer. When I got it back my horn would randomly honk. (I'm not saying the detailer is to blame). I can hear a sound like something rattling around coming from inside the steering wheel hub when you turn a corner. When the horn honks you can get it to stop by firmly tapping the top of the hub. Any ideas? Could something have been dropped inside of the hub and is shorting out the horn? How much disassembly can you do without being concerned with the air bag system. Thanks, Don

Exploded diagrams, procedures, etc are in the FSM (link in my sig). If you're going to be DIYing, it's a must-have.
My guess is that a piece of plastic broke off and is activating the horn. May have happened at detailer's but I can't imagine them doing anything would would cause it; ie, feces happens.

just disconnect the negative connector from the battery, step on brake pedal for a good 30secs.. might even wait another 15min. and you're good to go to work around the srs.
You'll need to rest the window regulators probably, so be ready for that. Last edited by Trips; 04-21-2017 at 07:10 PM. Reason: corrected lazy spelling |

I took my Z to the dealer to check on the "clunk" to inside the steering wheel hub. When they disassembled the steering wheel they found a weight had become dislodged and would short out the horn. No one could figure out the purpose of the weight. We decided to leave it out and see what difference it made. After a couple hundred miles I can't tell any difference in the drivability. Does anyone know what the weight is for and what harm it can do to drive with it removed? Thanks!

Not a clue. But I wouldn't worry about it. And now your Z is that much faster with the weight reduction
