VR38 conversion thoughts...
Afternoon team Z!
Been saving up for a solid TT setup for my Z (was looking at the GTM stage 2/3) and was recently asked a very logical question by a friend of mine (who owns a R35). "Why not just drop a VR38 into it instead for about the same cost?" Ithought about this and asked one of my certified mechanic friends this same question and he replied with "Find out what jumper harness and conversion kit is required in its entirety. You know to make it work out of the box. I cant imagine the wiring being a direct fit but try and find out the steps in electrical compatibility and go from there." So... thoughts? Comments? Is this even a good idea? Thanks team.

I don't know of anyone on here that has done it.. but I am sure someone has tried.
As far as your TT kit choice - GTM doesn't exist anymore. Gamma owns the design and sells a TT kit, but I think there is only one "stage" - though I am sure they could set you up with bigger turbos if you wanted.... I am one of the few people on here that runs this kit.

Don't forget the GTR tax when you start modding it after your swap, assuming it's really that easy and cost efficient as suggested, lol.

Assuming you can find a good engine for under 10k, you would probably need a new wiring harness, new ECU, new transmission and then you'd need to have new motor mount brackets made. If you can diy all of that then it might be worth it, otherwise it's at least 20k imo.

Hey dude Long time no see ... hope things are going well
My only input on your question is: who cares what it takes, just do it

Transmission-wise, it'd probably be best (and cheapest) to research what Daigo, Kawabata, and Nomu-Ken did with their R35 drift cars and see if it would be transferable into the Z34 chassis. Most of what they are ("were" in the case of Nomu-Ken) using is based off one of the RB25/Z33/etc. stock Nissan transmissions.

This topic seems to come up every so often here and the general consensus is always that dropping a VR38 into a Z34 would be orders of magnitude more expensive than a solid TT kit. I guess if money is no issue and you want to have something unique then go for it.
