Tips I learnt from rebuilding a salvage 370z
Wanted to share as I rarely contribute to forums, yet always get so much help from them. Figured i'd share some tips that I had to find out on my own as I was rebuilding a 2009 370z, as there was no info in the forums when I was looking for them;
Problem:My drivers side door would not lock. When you pushed the lock and unlock button you could hear the latch moving and the interior lock switch would move to lock, but for whatever reason it wouldn't hold and you could pull the handle from the outside and the door would open. Obviously a big security concern: FIX: The Nissan dealership couldn't fix it, but said I had a bad door actuator. This is the mechanism that has all the linkage and mechanics that lock your door. So I bought a used one on Ebay and installed it. Door worked great after that Problem:My key fob would not work. It wouldn't work to unlock/lock the doors, and it wouldn't work for the push start. I had to use the physical key to open it, then put it into the FOBgina to start it. Tried replacing the batteries and even bought a new key fob. Nothing worked. The Nissan dealership said the antennas weren't broken because they plugged it into their computer and could see them sensing it. They again told me they couldn't fix it. FIX: Through another car forum I found out that there's this little box behind the passenger side glove box that's fragile called the key fob control module. I unplugged the old one and plugged in the new one and it worked perfect. Problem:My car would would do a cold start stall, where it would turn over, catch like it wants to start and then die. If you pumped it with a little bit of gas it would rev up and start fine. FIX: Took it to the mechanic and had him clean out the throttle bodies and haven't had the problem again. Problem: The driver side window was about a quarter inch out from the frame causing a large gap between the window and the car. A bit of a problem. FIX: If your window is ever off you can adjust it by accessing the window regulator behind the silver metal panel behind the door panel. This one I had to have nissan do, but they adjusted it and got the window back on the right track. Problem: P2A00 code reading that an O2 sensor in bank 1 position 1 that was bad. Well $300 later replaced the sensor and the light came back on. FIX: There was a minor and I mean minor crack in the exhaust causing an almost unnoticeable exhaust leak. Welded the hole and the code never came back on. There's some other comical stories of misfortune with putting this car back together, but none that had shareable conclusions. I hope this can help someone out there, because I know I wish it had been information out there when I needed it. |

ZBakes,
Thanks for taking the time to share what you've learned! It will definitely help someone here in the future. I've had years of contributing and learning from various forums, and I can tell you that someday what you've posted here will aid some poor smuck who does a search and lucks onto your post. I've been there many times myself, and the hints I've discovered have saved my pocketbook and frustration level. Never think that your posts are unappreciated. Gene |

good stuff. Would be cool if we could catalog things a bit accordingly so it's easier for others to find, although usually google tends to hit the right posts anyway.
