I have one in both cars and I am very happy with its performance. It has paid for itself time and time again.

Also, being able to lock out false signals is VERY nice.

I just read online that the escort passport is actually better considering it has the newest DPS which filters out autosensing collision sensors that newer cars have.

Do you mean the max 360? Escort passport is not a model, all their detectors are called that.

Obviously the newer model will be better, but if the price is right and you want to keep things within a certain budget you cant go wrong with the 9500IX

Love my 9500ix, no complaints here, you won't regret buying it.

No I think they had an original escort passport, that's the name. https://www.radarbusters.com/Passpor...p/passport.htm

Yea whatever it is I don't think it has GPS capability which I think is important today because of all of the traffic light cameras. leaning to the 9500ix still being its 330$.. hmmmm

That model does have the GPS but it is in the 5-600$ range IIRC.

For 330$ the 9500IX is a good buy.

RDForum.org is your friend. I have an Escort Redline. Great range but a little chatty due to blind spot monitoring systems on newer cars.

I have one and I wouldn't go anywhere without it. Saved me a ticket at least 3 times, twice in California. Hardwired on dash, great alerts even saved me from a Lidar hit in Washington state.

Greets,

You might find this radar comparison interesting.

LIDAR, affectionately called Laser (which is actually infra-red), is the problem. You can tell if local law enforcement uses LIDAR by the fact they'll have it mounted on a tripod, and an officer will be standing behind it. The device looks like a video camera with two lenses.

Nothing on the market will detect LIDAR quickly enough to save you from ticket (well ... sort of. You may get lucky and detect LIDAR that was aimed at someone else's car, but the chances of that are very low). Typically, if your detector detects LIDAR (which it can and will), there's a very high likelihood it is informing you that you're about to get a ticket. There are "jammers" on the market, but their effectiveness, and legality, are open for debate.

Traditional radar on the other hand is what a detector will give you a really good chance against.

Pay attention to what is used typically in your area, and you'll know if a radar detector is worth your dime. If it's mostly LIDAR where you drive the most, it won't help a lot. If they still used traditional old-school radar, go for it.

BTW, most highway traps seem to use traditional radar. I've mostly noticed LIDAR in the city.

Best of luck!

Agreed. This is a growing problem for older radar detectors (and even some newer ones).
