hesitation power loss
Got into my Z today and when I pulled out into the road and I felt like I wasn't accelerating, then suddenly it started to go.The engine seemed to idle smoothly as always ,but there was this feeling like something was clogged. So I tried taking off fast at the light and it just felt this big power loss. I brought it in to the nissan dealer and was told it maybe the drive by wire accelerator pedal. It will be there at least til they call me with the news.
Anyone else have this happen? |

I had this happen in my 2009 - it must have been some bad gas for me cause it cleared up. I've read about everything from gas, to temperature changes, exhaust leaks, to gaskets. The gas pedal will be the first I've heard if it's correct. Search around and do ur research. Can u post a clip of the inside while it's happening?

It could be the pedal sensor. You can use an OBD/CAN scanner to read values ECM is seeing. See FSM for details.
Or could be dirty MAF(s). Cleaning is an easy job if you've ever turned a wrench (easy to get to, 2 small bolts per MAF, no gaskets). Several DIYs on this site. Modern cars are pretty good at diagnosing themselves. Spend a few bucks on an OBD/CAN scan tool. They are available for about $20 up to whatever you want to spend.

I just now got a call from the Nissan shop and was told the scan they performed showed the variable timing was off (running a little rich) so they adjusted that and cleaned everything.
He also informed me that a knock senor is not bad yet but is going bad if that makes any sense and that the whole top of the motor will have to be taken apart. To me it is either bad or not bad, if it were he said there would be a trouble code so I don't get that whole deal.He told me it is back to normal but it will cost me the $125. plus tax for the fix. I think my Major guard extended warranty should reimburse me for the bill and one day rental.I will find that out on Monday. Meanwhile I am going to pick it up soon and will report back here on how it is |

I highly recommend getting an OBD/CAN scanner to anybody who wants to do their own troubleshooting/repairs. The scanners are pretty cheap (as low as $20-30 for a bare-bones model) and the 370Z does a very good job of spotting problems.

Anyway here is a sad situation for me today, the service manager calls me up at 7 this morning to tell me they went through the car and found it was running 10% too rich so they corrected that, and that indeed the knock sensors were bad. He also told me they weren't affecting the performance that I should be okay since he and the tech went for a test ride.
So I go there and return the rental and get my car back thinking it will be back to its fast self again, as soon as I drive away it felt like a slug no power what so ever, how can they say that is acceptable??!! I got home and called back and explained what was going on, he basicaly called me crazy that I need to come back and go for a ride with the tech. What efn good will that do it wont change the fact it is slow AF! So I brought it to a different dealer down town FT lauderdale, and they seem to very much belive my story and said not to worry they will make sure the vehicle is like it was as new since they have real specialists there. I am no dummy when it comes to cars I probably know more that those clowns at the other dealership. IMO I think the car has what is called engine protection mgmt. In other words the knock sensors go bad so the computer automatically retards the timing to prevent detonation which can damage a motor and the valves thus leaving it excessively slow for its own good. Does that make any sense? |
