Question Name that drivetrain Noise...

Hello all,

I have a newer noise coming from my ride...

When driving highway speed, i get a low pitch hum / vibration.
- This noise can be eliminated by VERY lightly stepping on the brakes.
- It's not tire noise, and nothing is rubbing tires either
  • Could this be the wheel bearing going?
  • What else could be suspect?

Do you run spacers? If so it would be a whine or hum from them.

Since the hum disappears when you brake, my guesses are:
1) Deposits on rotors. Bed the brakes.
2) Wheel bearing worn. Jack up that corner so wheel is off the ground, use something to get some leverage under the tire, feel for looseness. Replace if needed.
3) The anti-rattle clip on the pad is broken. Replace.

Could be from a worn out wheel bearing. They can make a crackling sound when they stat to go bad and a humming sound. Also, just because there isn't any play when you tug on the rim, doesn't mean that the wheel bearing isn't going bad. That's usually when they are really bead.

But the noise goes away under very slight brake pressure?
