Perhaps just a little more info needed; I.E.what BT source to which BT receiver....

But in general BT 5.1 surround sound is advanced magic unlikely to be found stock.
My dearly departed non Bose head unit didn't even support rear speakers...

You mean music or phone calls? Mine can connect through with phone calls but when I try to play music through the bluetooth it doesn't even stream it. I have to connect through the AUX hole.

I'm saying you got a 370z, touring nav that you can stream music to from your phone and car has 4 speakers so playing from CD player I'm sure plays in surround meaning that if song plays an instrument in rear left than it will play in rear left but what if you dream from phone is it just stereo (2 channels left and right)?

I think you are confusing your terms.

Surround sound means four or more speakers getting different signals - there are four or more discrete channels. Left-front and left-rear will not be playing the same thing (if using a surround source). CDs are not surround. SACDs and DVDs can be.

Most car setups are stereo with two sets of speakers - front and rear. LF and LR get the same music - although there may be some processing (eg, delay, equalization) going on.

I didn't stream music when I had my Z but assume the rear speakers will play - stereo, not surround.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Bose system is capable of discrete 4 channel audio output, but as was said, CD audio is stereo only.

At this point, Bluetooth probably doesn't work for surround in most applications because of bandwidth limitations.

I'm not actually sure what Bluetooth specification is in most Nissans at this point, but it would need to be Bluetooth 2.1+EDR to get near the bandwidth required for more than 2 channel audio.

you only have 2 ears through.... SRS stated to me long time ago that at the end, there will only be 2 channels required for full simulated surround sound.

The way the system is setup you have the factory radio which can produce up to 4 channels depending on the source. The Bose amp then divides these using crossovers for each one of the 7(including sub) speakers. The Bluetooth device usually a phone is set up to run stereo headphones, therefore: it goes from 2 to 4 to 7 different FREQUENCIES, but the signal is just right and left . Although the amp and radio does a great job at hiding this that's the reality of the matter.
