CSC Failure
As a new owner with a manual transmission I am curious about CSC Failure as it relates to owner's driving style. Pick your driving style when you experienced the failure. Or maybe it is just random?

I don't really beat on it, I've done a few burnouts and hard launches but I can count them on 1 hand... I do a lot of highway driving as I work 46 miles away from home and I'm reverse of traffic.
1st time I drove 55+ miles of highway when it went out suddenly, this time I felt it dying as I was heading home from just running some errands around town. |

I've had it happen once but it was within the first 20k. It was my first sports car so I can't say I was gentle with her in those miles. After the first one I've felt symptoms but the replacement still hasn't gone out and I'm a little over 80k now. I'd say now I'm more of a freeway on/off ramp racer now lol I guess it's just a hit or miss with these things. Pray to what ever entity you believe in and hope for the best lol. Or get in and fix it which is what I'm doing now. Z1 elimination kit is the way I'm going.
Also I want to add that the first time it went out I was on the freeway in gear for over an hour and that's when I felt it would happen. Pumping the clutch would bring it back Last edited by lhinojos; 10-28-2015 at 12:00 PM. |

Yup, what a psychological f**k this is. Driving a brand new Z and just hoping your CSC doesn't fail on you. Does anyone at Nissan even look at this forum and the issues people are having?

95k miles, daily driven 95 miles per day, in stop and go over the altamont in the east bay, nor-cal. No CSC issues. I never push the clutch to the floor, just a tad past the engagement point. I do plenty burnouts, drifts, and drag launches monthly on the weekends.

The CSC is worn down from putting your clutch all the way in and being very rough with shifting and keeping the clutch in a lot, not to mention the part does fail for 09's and 10's
Tip to help keep down on CSC wear is to push the clutch in only half to 2/3rds the way in instead of all the way to shift. Also before the CSC goes out go online and buy a Heavy Duty Centric Slave Cylinder or go onto Z1 motorsports and buy their Elimination Kit. Regardless it will more than likely go out unless you replace it with the heavy duty one or the elimination kit

It's simply a manufacturing defect. Best thing you can do is prepare up front, buy an aftermarket csc & a new oem master cylinder and have the parts on hand before it goes out on you.

I've got around 20 track days and 27,000 miles since I bought the Nismo in the fall of '11. I've flush and replaced my fluid with Motul 600, and wrapped insulation around the clutch line down by the header. Knock on wood. I've had no problems.

I didn't have a failure, but I went off and replaced the csc to the zspeed setup, I didn't wanna take any chances, I was at 7300 miles on a 2010.. Im at 8700 now, and she's running like a rocket.

2010 (40th) failed at 48k. Bought it used, and it failed day 2 lol. Glad I purchased that extended warranty!
From reading the forums and comparing stories, I'm almost positive I'll be doing an external slave as soon as I get my transmission replaced under warranty for toasted synchros (pretty sure the two issues are related, but I've only had the car for a few thousand miles.) |
