Key FOB question
Is it OK to leave the spare FOB without a battery for an extended amount of time? I just replaced the CR2032 battery on the FOB I use everyday with the one in the spare. I don't plan on purchasing a battery for the spare FOB and figured better to leave it without a battery to avoid acid leak? Will this unprogram the FOB? Will it damage it in any way? What do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Just to answer your question, you can consider the programming in the keyfob "engraved" to the chip inside the keyfob whether or not there is a battery present I even verified with a few stealerships. You can leave the battery out for a year or infinity and put a battery in it, and the chip will still be programmed for your car. Obviously, you can also reprogram it for another car

1 qty. $3.99 2 qty. $5.99 4 qty. $4.99 Can someone guess how many extra 2032s I have now?? |

regarding the unprogramming part, when you buy a brand new TV and not knowing how long it's been sitting in storage or on the shelf waiting to be bought, will this automatically unprogram the remote to the TV? will this damage the TV or remote in any way? i think you'll be okay.

Is a Key FOB Repairable?
My spare Key FOB "drains" the battery in about 6 weeks. I think it doesn't turn itself off. When I put in a fresh battery it functions normally / works as designed and six weeks later the battery is dead. In comparison, I can't remember the last time I changed the battery in the "good" Key FOB. The condition with the "bad" key FOB started after I had the steering wheel lock issue repaired at the dealership and turned in both key FOBs to the service writer. (purchased the 2010 pre-owned in OCT 2013) Would the steering lock repair have any thing to do with the FOB operation? Is a key FOB repairable?
Any advice and counsel is greatly appreciated. Thanks |
