Rev limiter saved me $108
Few weeks ago, I got a loud exhaust fix-it violation in CA (the most strict and unfriendly emission & mod state). Once you slap back on your factory exhaust, the ticket can only be signed off by a certified state referee once you pass the decibel test (95 decibel and below is pass).
Then they charge you $108 testing fee+ $25 court fee Once I arrived at the referee center with my stock exhaust, they immediately got started on the procedure. As they proceed to rev my engine with the decibel machine recording behind my exhaust, they couldn't rev the car pass 4k thanks to the rev limiter The test was cut short and they couldn't charge me for incomplete test. The referee then pretty much gave me a 'Get out of jail free' card. The paper he gave me stated that my car was untestable and that I had a factory exhaust on. Then I took the paper to the court lobby and got it waived. So in CA, if you get a fix-it ticket for your exhaust and it's untestable due to the Rev limiter, you get a "get out of jail free card". Either that or I just got lucky Last edited by jaedub; 08-05-2015 at 05:24 PM. |

It's a safety thing so you can only rev the engine so high when not in gear/moving. Don't think you can do a proper brake torque either on these cars.
