Returning Z Owner...Possibly.
Hey guys, I am a returning Z owner. I had a 2010 Pearl White Sport/MT. Sold it almost a year ago. I was in the middle of changing jobs. I didnt go back to work for almost a year due to waiting on my new job which caused me to sell my Z. 😭
Anyway, I'm in the oilfield now, been here for awhile and yes, my job is secure. I'm making some really great money and I'm ready to get back into a sports car. I honestly wanted to just save my money for a GTR but insurance is straight up rediculous and not only that but if I wanted to leave the oilfield, a heavy note on a GTR ad insurance would make that almost impossible. Anyway, I wanted to see what the outlook and opinions were of fellow 370z owners. I lost alot of money on mine in the end due to parts I bought and had to sell. Parts like: Carbonsignal's Nismo Lip Kit, RS1 Fenders, Tuning and of course, on the car itself. If i were to buy another one, it would be a Nismo. Not the newer 2015 body but a 2013/2014. I guess I'm just curious if the market and vendors are still alive for the 370z and if it would be logical to buy all those parts again, plus alot more, for my Nismo, if i were to get one again. I've never owned a Nismo and I always wanted one. Would it be wise to re-invest into another Z? Thanks. |

If there's not GTR money... Then yep get back into the Z. And thumbs up on the pre 15' Nismo call out. The new one just doesn't feel like a Nismo... Like many have said on here the new design is more suited as the sport package model. Plus there are still a ton of 14's and 13's to be saved from dealership lots. Good luck!

Of course not.. it's never financially logical to modify a newer sports car. That's part of what makes it fun.
If you spend some time shopping for an adult owned car that has been modified to your liking, the seller would take the hit on the depreciation of the car & parts. |

If you plan on doing mods, don't get the nismo, unless you just want the name. You can get the same performance and aftermarket looks with a sport touring and put the money you save(sport touring vs nismo pricetag)and put it towards upgrades.
If I was to buy a 370 again and wanted to stay stock,I would go with a nismo. And if I could afford it,I would get the 2015. I actually like the look!

I did the same thing last summer, parted out and sold my boosted 2010 due to a career change. Now I have been shopping for a sub 40k sports car new or used, stangs, vettes, caymans etc, you name it, for all its short comings and small issues, the Z is still IMO the best bang for the buck when bought used and low mileage, I have seen some 11-13 base sports for 23-26k with 10-15k on autotrader lately...basic bolt ons and a tune you have a sub 30k car that is a lot of fun, sure you can buy a base gt and have v8 power for cheap, but go spend some time on that forum and see some of the issues they are having, made me laugh after all the stuff we complain about with the Z. While the "experts" shun the Z basically because of the brakes, its still a great fun well rounded street car. If you go back and read a lot of the old tests, if the brakes did no fail on several tests they openly admit it would be a top pick in many comparisons...I am strongly considering getting back into one as well, it will just be the issue of the last one being boosted, a BOV is quite intoxicating... Where I am at now geographically I would probably go NA with all the money in suspension/handling, SE Ohio has some great driving roads. I was almost in tears when I took my Z to be sold, it was far too soon to part with it. Now due to societal norms, I feel pressured to get something "newer" or "better". The new m2 will probably be good, but will be more than I want to spend and they cost too much when they break...and I am going crazy without a sports car haha. I hate taking the depreciation hit on a new car, I replaced it with the aftermarket parts depreciation hit which was still far less, so that is my justification for buying used. I do not have any addictions or other expensive hobbies, so ya know what, it I want to blow money modding a car, dang it I will.
do it.

Welcome back
Only you can really answer that question. It's really not a matter of it being wise, but a matter is a Z really the car you want (within reason) The GTR & the Z are very different from each other. While I could buy a GTR, I have no interest to do so, it's just not the car for me. I love the Z for what it is, raw affordable with solid performance that can be improved upon. It's a good smile/$$$$ ratio So back to your question is the Z going to be satisfying to you enough? After spending all the money modding & what not, is it going to be the car you really want or will you always be wishing or hoping for something more? If it is a car you wish to have for a long time (I hold on to vehicles for a long time >10 years if it's what I want) Then I would say it would be worth the investment regardless of what anyone else says. $.02

Nismo...
If I was to buy a new Nismo I'd keep it stock for sure. I like them more now than I did when they came out, but I really like the pre-2015 Nismos.
If is was planning on doing a bunch of mods I'd find a base model. (no base model up here, though) I've reached the age where I'm not all that interested in throwing a bunch of money into a car so any advice I have is senseless. 104 |

If you've got the mod bug it's really hard to beat a Mustang. Speaking from experience, there's probably 10x the aftermarket options out there for half the price vs any other platform. Plus the power they can make is just plain stupid (in a good way).
But if you want another Z there's certainly nothing wrong with that. I'd be going TT with my nismo if I could afford it, and wouldn't get rid of a boosted Z for a GT-R even if they offered a straight-up trade. As far as modding a nismo vs modding a base sport... it makes more sense to start with the base if you're going to be swapping a lot of parts anyway. HOWEVER (somehow this point always gets missed), a lot of that "wasted" money is no longer an issue if you're buying used. If you like the body kit on the nismo get one and mod it because it costs a LOT to put those parts on a base and the previous owner already took that hit to buy the more expensive model. If you can find a good deal on a nismo, mod the crap out of it. Just my opinion.

I like the Nismo body. Thats the main reason i want one. That and the Nismo lip kit looks great together. I would save by buying a nismo vs buying a base and putting the nismo kit on, im pretty sure.
Thanks for the input guys. |

My apoligies,I thought you were wanting to change the body as well. Definately can't go wrong with a nismo.
