The Old Spiral Highway aka Old Lewiston Grade

Out of Lewiston Idaho down around where Washington, Oregon, and Idaho come together is the Old Spiral Highway. I am thinking of a trip out to Washington to go fishing with my brother. This road, a little over seven miles long, looks fun. I have driven it before but not with the new roadbed shown in this video.

Looks great! I live in northern idaho (Coeur D Alene). Ill have to make the drive down this spring/summer.

2000 foot elevation change and about 60 corners with several 180 degree corners in a little over seven miles. The problem is, with a little more research, it is heavily patrolled. Ah well, still worth it IMO.

that's perfect. ideally sub 1500 ft is best but 2000, i'll take it. have fun out there

i'm looking at possibly doing a mission down to the dragon's tail this year (most likely next year)

I am betting it probably is. Highway 95 was built many years ago to by-pass the road. It has two lanes each way and is much faster. Most people are interested in getting from point a to point b as quickly as possible. I have not lived in the area for some time. I came across this road when I was going to WSU back in the late 1980's, early 1990's. Did not have a sports car then but a moderately hot-rodded 68 El Camino. It was fun.

I have read that it is watched closely by the local police though. So if you drive it, be forewarned.

It is a a nice video, Alas, I did not make. I know I was going out west to go fishing in 2016 and I am beginning now to research routes. I remember this road well and did a search on the web, found this video.
