2017 370z Nismo
Hey guys I am in the process of purchasing a used 2017 Nismo Tech 6MT with 8.5k miles and I was just wondering what your guys input would be on the price and if I should try to negotiate further. First of all it will be a 6 hour drive to get it which is not a big deal really , they originally had it priced at 40k and I talked to their GM (its a Nissan dealer) and I was able to lower it too 36k after going back and forth. My OTD price is almost 40k and I will be going down to look at it and hopefully buy it this weekend. Would you more experienced and seasoned Z buyers suggest I can definitely get this amazing vehicle at a lower price or it's at a good price already?

When I was shopping for mine, the dealer was going to let me have a 17 with ~3000 miles on it for 38K out the door. This car was never owned, just used as a demo by the employees. That price was "my" price since my wife works at the dealer and we buy a lot of cars from them. I settled on a 2016 one they had with 9000 miles that already had some mods to it for 31.5k. This is in the Chicago area, not sure how much difference it wold be in Cali.

I've had dealers pull that "last year of this model makes the price of the car higher, which in truth, is exactly opposite of the truth. People don't want the last model if a new one is coming out unless they get a serious deal. Oh well, not like the lies are anything new. It just cracks me up that they expect us to believe it when we know differently.

You can probably do a little better. In Dec 2012, I bought a brand new (2012) 370Z NISMO with 1 mile on it. $40,090 OTD, it got totaled Aug 2014. I bought another brand new (2014) 370z NISMO in Aug 2014, with upgraded Bose system, (2 miles on it) got it $53 cheaper. $40,037 OTD.

I think you can do much better. I would suggest to look online to see what used prices are, but they're all skewed. Like everyone is saying, locality matters, but the fact of the matter is none of the online prices are accurate. They are selling them for less....they have to be. That's just my 2 cents. There was a used 16 tech manual nismo near me with 10k miles. W/o any negotiating the dealer offered 34.5 (not OTD). That's already a much better deal than yours. Also you may want to look into extending the warranty if that helps your deal.
BTW I didnt buy the car I told you about because the dealer said the car was babied...so I asked him why it was being sold. Get a hold of this....the dealer told me the guy got a DUI so his insurance went through the roof. He traded it in for an altima. Yeah, im sure the car was babied... |

The GM just kept saying over the phone he could not go lower than 36k because it is a certified used vehicle and the car is pretty much brand new it looks in excellent condition based off the pictures. The first thing I did ask was why is it for sale if its pretty much brand new, like you stated could be a horrible previous owner that could not afford it but in this case it was a lease for 8 months and the dealer states it was babied so we will see once I check it out in person this weekend or the next at the latest. I really do want to bring the price down since I will be paying at least half of what it will cost upfront , hopefully that gives me some bargaining power lol

Sorry for my rant (I'm going through the same thing as you lol), but good luck! One thing I've learned is nothing really ever happens over the phone. When you make up your mind, go into the dealership with your finances in order. By having your finances in order, I mean have your loan amount ready to go and make sure it amounts to exactly what you want it to be. Furthermore, have the cash/check for whatever you want to put as down payment. Don't bring anything more. That way they'll either work with you since you literally have nothing more to offer OR you'll go home w/o a nismo and be glad you didn't overpay. They'll either call you back or I'm sure you'll find another one. Let us know how it goes. Last edited by babyzilla; 07-13-2017 at 04:43 PM. |

I bought my 2014 NISMO new in May2015 for 35K OTD trading in a 2008 Xterra with 175K miles. Decide the price you want to pay realistically, and play that against how long the car has been posted. The longer a car sits the more money it costs them and gives you more power. It's a used car so the only fee's should be licensing and taxes. I've never paid them buying from a dealer, new or used, and never will. If they aren't willing to eat it, I'm not willing to purchase from them.
Don't be afraid to walk away and leave your number in case they want to play ball after it sits another week, I saved almost 7K on my wife's Rouge doing it that way. I went in on Saturday told them what I would pay, they turned me down, I walked away. They called on Thursday, 2nd to last day of the month, and not only agreed to my asking price but offered to send some one to get me since I was 2 hours from the dealer. |

I bought my 2017 Nismo Tech 6/MT with 4,000 miles on it for $34,500. I live in Tampa and had to drive an hour down south to pick it up in Sarasota. Bought it about 6 months ago.
