Default what is this?

I noticed this piece while looking to see if there where any front wheel cooling duct's for the front brakes, (there aren't ) .It feels like it has cooling fins on it but if you look behind it there is a huge piece of Aluminum welded to the bumper or sub frame and it has what looks like a 1" threaded hole through the center and it doesn't attached to the subject piece. see att pictures Thank you.long live the Z

The threaded hole is where you screw in the tow-hook (or your front license plate if you have a relocator like the mower-axle kit). The bit in front of it is a trim piece.

Pop out the plastic and screw in your tow hook if you ever need to be towed.

As others have said, it's for the tow hook (hook is stored next to spare tire). More info in Owner's Manual.

The Mower Axle option.
Downside: It ain't cheap.
Upside: No holes in the bumper!
Worth the money to me.
