Oil cooler nismo z
New guy here great site you boy's have here great info. My ? is i read the diy oil cooler thread and was about to buy the parts and install them on my 2013 370z nismo. but my oil temps haven't reached over 202 degrees. Has Nissan addressed the the high oil temp problem? By the way i live in south Fl. And it's near 80 degrees today and drove the car lively for 45min's and never got over 202 in temps. Do i still need an oil cooler?

Many people are concerned about oil temps but many people run their temps too low. The old racer's adage is "Cool water and hot oil makes more power."
the hotter the oil, the thinner it is. So you get less frictional resistance. The other thing is combustion creates a lot of by products that get into the oil, water being a big one. Water and sulfur (another combustion by product) combine to create sulfuric acid which eats metal. Getting your oil temp above 212F boils off the water. In addition, modern oils are very robust as to temperature. Conventional oils are stable up to and around 270F and synthetics are good up to and above 300F. So oil temp is a good thing and you don't need to worry (as much) about higher oil temps. In fact you need to get it up regularly. Here is an article that talks about my statements. Just cover the oil cooler and you can get it as warm as you like.

With the stock oil cooler, you temps will be about 230 in normal driving in the summer. If you go to the track, tail of the dragon, etc you will need a better oil cooler. Since 2012, the 370z's have oil stabilizers installed at the oil filter. It is commonly called an oil/water heater on here. In high temps they don't do much good. The oil temp gauge on our car is after the oil cooler so temps are actually 20 deg. hotter than the gauge shows. Our cars start to cut power at around 240-250 deg oil temp. From what I remember, limp mode is at 260 deg. I have installed an oil cooler and am glad I did.

Being in Fl. I would keep an eye on your oil temps. If you see them up around 240. Start thinking oil cooler.
