Hi all. Since I live in California I must display a front plate. I found the bracket in the trunk, and after some searching it appears that it requires 2 3/8 holes to be drilled in the front in install. WTF? that's not happening!
I got an aftermarket tow eye since the original was missing in annodized red to match the red cailpers I painted.
I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the plate (not the car), right above the "O" in California. I unscrewed the eye, put on the plate, and screwed on the eye. I bent the plate a bit to match the contour of the lip.
This makes me more happy than holes in the car for sure. It meets the permanently attached requirement. It's clearly visable.
I'll try and post a photo, but I'm sure you can visualize it anyway.

Congratulations on the new ride! I do think the 370z roadster is one of the nicest looking Nissans ever produced.
Sounds like you came up with a good solution on the front plate. There's also a company that makes a special bracket that screws into the front tow hook receiver, that allows you to display the plate without drilling any holes in the bumper. That's what I'm using.

If you haven't done so already, do yourself a favor and buy the "Smart Top" for this car. It's a plug-and-play device that significantly expands the functionality of your soft top, allowing you to control the top from your key fob, to use one-touch operation while in the car, to open the top while moving (slowly), etc. Well worth it!

Welcome and congrats! I think you're not far from me. Try and go to the ZONC meet & greet in Danville, if you can.

Welcome to Z Roadster ownership! I've been a happy owner of my 2010 Touring Sport since 2018. I spent most of that time in the Sacramento area until I moved to Northeast Tennessee in the Spring of '22. Having lived in Northern California all of my adult life until that move, I fully appreciate the frustration that comes with the front plate requirement in California. Personally, I went against the grain for 30 years and did not use one on any of my cars (and never had an issue with local or state law enforcement). Sounds like your method turned out to be a great fix to an otherwise unsightly necessity. No need for me to be concerned over now... Tennessee only issues one plate!

ZONC is full of great people. I joined up during my first year of ownership and went on a fun run with the group. Unfortunately, life got busy and that was the only time that I had the opportunity to meet up with those folks.

Enjoy Z ownership!
