New to the Z community
Hello everyone, I'm new to the Z community.
I recently decided to go with the Z, so why not join the Community. Right? I haven't bought a Z yet. This is where you guys and girls coming in play. Looking forward to buying one. I just want to make sure I can Afford it. I'm 19 years old, friends suggested me to go with a two year old Z. Which I have plans of buying a two year old Z in case I can't afford a brand new one out the factory. I'm a Security officer making $2600 monthly, lucky me I only pay $400 in rent. I still live at home with parents. Few friends of mine said, I won't be able to afford it because insurance on that car will eat me alive. I got $4,000 down payment for the car down payment still climbing, current car I'm driving the Honda civic(no power, not even fast yet I managed to get two speeding tickets in 10 months). The car is paid off free and clear. I manage to stay debt free, I only have Student loans which I'm not required to pay until I graduate. I took a very good look at the prices at carmax.com. price range I'm targeting under $26,000 with at max of 20,000 miles. Making $2600 x 12 months = $31,200 a year that times the 5 year auto loan. $31,200 x 5 (year loan)= $156,000 I don't see the problem, why I won't be able afford it. (Do have a girlfriend but I got her have on the pills) If fired while I have the car loan My plan B is to join the military ASAP. (I'm joining after graduating the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor's Degree In Criminal Justice) So, here is my question to the Z owners. Can I afford the Z? Will I need more down payment? What more do I need to go pick one up? Thanks in advance and Happy New years everyone. |

$156k? Get an Aston.
Honestly that's not nearly a reasonable number. You're forgetting every other bill you need to pay. $450 car payment roughly $300 est gas if you're dding $150 for breakfast @5 dollars a day $210 for lunch @7 dollars a day $300 for dinner @10 dollars a day $400 rent I'm not sure what insurance is going to do to you but after these essentials you've only got $800 to play with (assuming $2600 is after taxes, otherwise 2600 becomes something closer to $1750). You really want to figure out if you can afford it? Break down your monthly bill carefully and honestly. Last edited by dP3NGU1N; 01-07-2013 at 03:30 AM. Reason: Changed a new car monthly payment to used car payment. |

Save your money unless you intend to live in you parents house for a long time and they're ok with it. From a parent's point of view, I'd want my kid out of the house, learn how to fend for himself, and live on his own. I'll be very supportive in other ways. If my kid can afford a nice car, he should be able to afford to live on his own. But that's just me.

^^Agreed.
Not trying to discourage you, but make sure you consider what you what to do over the next 5 years, and how a large car/insurance/gas payments might hold you back. As much as I love cars, there are things that were more important to me to do first...such as pay off school debt, buy a house, etc. But only you know your budget/goals, so good luck in your choice! |
