Default I've been a member here for about 7 or 8 years, never posted --- I have a question

I own a 2010 Nissan 370Z Roadster with 6,700 miles on it (not a typo). What maintenance do I need to have done? I have changed the oil/filter several times and actually changed out the tires once also replaced the battery once too. The idle seems a bit rough this year and I am wondering if mice and chipmunks are nibbling at some of the wires (obviously, my car sits a lot). I do drive it yearly, but not often.

After 12 years, I suggest:
Change the tires. The rubber is getting hard by now.
Change all fluids and filters. Eg, rear end, transmission, engine coolant, etc.
Start driving the car for at least 30 minutes per month. Cars don't like to sit for long periods.

Clean the throttle bodies and MAF sensors too.

Bleed the brakes. The brake fluid is hydroscopic and will have collected a fair amount of water after 10+ years. If the car is a stick shift, also bleed the clutch system since that fluid is likely to be grungy as well. Replace the brake and clutch fluids with a high quality DOT4 brake fluid such as Motul 600, ATE TYP200 or even Castrol SRF. Also, change the rear differential fluid ... even after only 7,500 miles, it's likely to be nasty. I suspect the magnetic drain plug will be coated with metal flakes from the initial break-in. I agree with Rusty to clean the MAF sensors and throttle bodies since that may help to eliminate the rough idle.

I would suggest buying some peppermint oil and putting a few drops around your car every week. Mice can't deal with the smell, I guess it overpowers their sensitivity limit, and they leave the area. I've been using it to keep the attic in my house clear of them for 1.5 years. Best and cheapest way I've found. Started doing it to the shop/barn I'm converting into a garage at an old ranch house I bought last August, and so far no signs of droppings inside. No idea if it works on chipmunks. I use the Peppermint Essential Oil from Brooklyn Botany, bought off Amazon. I get about 4 months of coverage per bottle, used throughout a 2,000 sq ft attic.

In addition to the suggestions above I would:
- pull the steering lock fuse or buy a backup mechanism (I think I posted in here with the one I got that has worked great)
- If you have a leather interior it's probably time for a conditioner. May look good on the surface but is probably pretty dry
- I might consider a Seafoam engine treatment. Been a while since I've done one on the Z, but I think on this one you get the can that sprays downa. long tube placed inside the intake after the MAFs. I bet there's a thread here or something on youtube to find a good vacuum source or confirm it's done through the intake.

1. Check the belts and hoses. Check and replace as needed.
2. Replace tires.
3. Check the battery for corrosion on the connections. Potentially test/replace.
4. Replace all fluids.
5. Replace gas.
6. Find a friend and have them help you make sure your brake lights, turn signals, headlights and running lights work.
7. Lub hinges for doors, struts on hatch maybe.
8. Check your weather-stripping.
9. Check the owners manual for anything else, classic car maintenance cover a lot of similar items but not all are applicable. Normally rodents don't chew on wiring anymore because they use different plastic chemicals that don't taste like sugar to them anymore.

OP, to sum up what everyone else has said, take the car apart and rebuild.

Drain gas. Fill with new, preferably Ethanol free gas, and add 1 bottle of this while filling up: https://www.redlineoil.com/si-1-comp...system-cleaner

So I agree with everyone but I believe the tires were changed once already so verify dates and only change if needed. I would also get weatherstrip lubricant or spray silicon to do all the door rubbers etc. If it still doesn't run correctly possibly check that plugs are good no cracks etc. Overall deep cleaning and removal of leaves and debris. Waxing is a good option. Try to drive it a bit more...enjoy it while you have it. Glad you are looking to keep it maintained although I would definitely change out the brake fluid and clutch fluid more often. Good luck and I hope it runs smoother for you without to much work!!!

Since we are taking the car apart and rebuilding, might as well also replace the black plastic clips that hold the car together.
