Hello From San Diego
I bought a 370z back in March and this is my first Z ever. Really, this is my first sports car ever, unless you count a 2000 Hyundai Tiburon. I just needed something fun, zippy, and easy to park to drive around town. I also have a Ford Raptor and a GSX-R750, but they are a little tough to navigate the city.
The car had Megan Racing headers, test pipes, H&R lowering springs (stock shocks), and 20mm spacers when I got it. I went round and round in my head on how to get it registered in CA, and finally decided the minimal amount of power from the headers and no cats on an NA motor just wasn't worth the hassle with registration. Consequently, I just put stock manifold and cats back on. I also thought the springs were too low for a daily driver, as I was cringing over every little bump, and they were way too stiff. I felt like the car was going to bounce sideways on every corner with speed. They might be good for drifting (maybe?), but they do not feel planted. I certainly wouldn't want them at a track either. So I bought KW V3's (thanks Donut media), which should raise the car about half way between stock and the H&R's and I really hope absorb road imperfections without sending the car off the road. I haven't driven the car in a few months because I did the work myself and I've got a lot of stuff going on, so it's taken me a long time to get the work done. I just got the stock manifolds and cats finished yesterday. While I had it in the air, I installed the Z1 motor and transmission mounts too, along with a new set of Michelin PS4S's. Going to install the front coilovers today and a Z1 Motorsports undershroud today and it should be ready for the first drive in a few months. I've also installed a new head unit with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay along with a wireless charger under the center console, just like I was in high school again. I hadn't installed a stereo in a long time; they've gotten difficult. I had to run a GPS antenna, speed sensor, microphone, steering wheel controls, and backup camera. It all looks really pro, especially for someone figuring it out as he goes. Once this is done, I'd like to be done with projects for a while, but my next upgrade will be a limited slip diff and then fully adjustable suspension components (control arms, etc.). Most of my automotive money gets dumped into my truck though, so it might be a while before I get around to any more mods. Since "pics or it didn't happen"... I also installed a USB port connected directly to the head unit and USB ports for charging in the center console, in addition to the hidden, wireless charger: As it sits now, ready for the front coilovers: And here is my main project vehicle: |
