Bleep Bloop, new member.
Hey there, I got my Z last summer, but my application to the forums got stuck in the toobs or something, but I'm in now. I have a silver 09 touring with small brakes and bose nav that looks like gamecube graphics. look forward to getting deep into the details on these cars.

This is my first post!!!! Bought my z back in January and happy to be with some fellow Z lovin folks 2016 6SM with 13000 on the OD. I hope to pick up some good tips on making a little more torque out of it and maybe some bank account friendly upgrades on the exterior. Nice to meet everyone!!!!!!

Before you begin any exterior modifications definitely install a Z Speed Performance CMAK Kit before its too late and install an engine oil cooler I have an AAM Competition S-Line oil cooler and it helped out tremendously. Exterior modifications are very subjective since everyone here likes something else.

So I'm looking at 2 purchases at about 500$ a piece and and labor for an install. Why should this be done on a car with less than 15,000 miles on it??? Please excuse the lack of knowledge on this as I am a first time Z owner.

Oil cooler: the Z is badly undercooled. Even spirited street driving will push oil temps above the 240*F range, and the engine will start pulling timing and go into "limp" mode, with the same effect on performance that a limp **** has on a .. different type of performance. Z1 25-row oil cooler kit, Setrab core, wrapped oil lines, and a thermostatic plate would be my recommendation, unless you plan on tracking/seriously street driving your car, then go with a 34-row option. CMAK: the CSC on the Z is a ticking time bomb. It could fail in a year. Or it could fail tomorrow. It's a garbage plastic cylinder inside the trans housing. When it fails, you can't shift. Which is a badness thing. You have to drop the transmission to replace it. So you're looking at at least $1000 in labor to replace this part. Every time it fails. And it will fail, often. There is no better piece of preventative maintenance than replacing the CSC with a CMAK. Even better, since the transmission is already coming off, you can upgrade your clutch and flywheel for basically zero labor cost. ZSpeed has options to include a clutch/flywheel when you purchase the CMAK. If you're still on the fence, you could ask -ZS-Carpenter for his opinion: his stock CSC failed at ZDayZ and he had to nurse his Z some 600 miles home in 5th gear, never knowing if he could get moving again after each gas stop... |
