Default Service Engine Soon (SES) light

I have a new 2013 370Z with 9.9k miles. The (SES) idiot light turned on on my way home from work today. The enginge seems fine. Is ther any simple way to turn off that light?? The gas cap is secure. The only mod (so far) are some K&N drop-ins.

Thanks,
Ken

Warranty! Take it in to the dealership and have them deal with it. Tell them to respect your car ask for a loner and call it a day.

At the very least stop at a parts store and read the code. I don't understand why people want to turn the light off without seeing why it turned on.

The dealer can tell you what the code is. If you don’t want to put down a refundable deposit, don’t have a credit card, Atm with a Visa Master Card logo on it. For a scanner at the auto store.

I've never had to put anything down to use a code reader in the Autozone parking lot, but different stores have different policies. The guy follows me out to the car and we bs about cars/sports/etc while I use the reader, then I hand it back and go on about my day.

Autozone used to give you the code for free.

Find out what the code is and we can advise further.

Scan the code. Look up the code. If minor (ask here if in doubt), clear the code and carry on. If not minor, take to dealer for warranty repairs (do NOT clear the code).

If you read the code before taking to the dealer, you'll know if they are BSing you.

Default Update to (SES) Light

OK… So I took my new (2013) 370 Touring w/ sport / Navigation (Bose) and 7 sp AT back to my Nissan Dealer (Poway, CA) to check the codes for the SES light. What they found was the AT needed a Nissan factory upgrade re-flash in the ECU. It totally made sense. I was detecting some odd behavior in the trans in manual mode. In 4th and 5th if I let up in the throttle going down hill, the trans was dropping out of gear like it was in full auto mode. I could see it on the tach and felt it in the loss of motor back pressure breaking. BTW there’s no way you can respect the motor in the 370 and leave this AT in full auto mode all the time. You have to slap it into manual periodically just to keep the RPM above 2k or the motor will just lope along. I guess the ECU is just trying to save fuel (who cares!) In any event, playing with AT in this car is half the fun. I had a 350Z for 10 yrs w/ the 6 sp MT and the AT on the 370 is a lot more “fun”. (If you looking for a very legit Nissan dealer, the Mossy guys in Poway, CA are that. They totally fixed my issue and detailed my 370 before they returned it to me. (Good Guys)…

Interesting -- I wonder if this issue is unique to the '13's. If so, I wonder what they did differently in the AT related tables for the new MY.

Any wild chance you took note of the actual code number associated with the SES?
