Default New 370Z Owner Issues

Hello Everyone,

So I had my first oil change last weekend for my 2016 370Z and was informed by the maintenance technician at Nissan in Mananass:

1. I was sold a maintenance package that includes tire rotation - my car's tire cannot be rotated as they are different sizes - back tires are not the same size as front tires.
2. He stated I should not drive the car in the winter time - the car has been having problems with the driver's side window not rolling down when its cold outside. I find it hard to believe that a car should not be driven in the winter time...yes its a sports car and I don't drive it when snow is on the ground...but even when there is no snow the window doesn't want to work properly and the car has a strange crunch sound when driving first thing off in the morning - cold weather only. He stated that is just how this car is.

I'm ex military and was stationed in Japan....it does get cold there....but very few times does it drop below freezing...if it's true that the car should not be driven in cold weather below freezing, then this is something I believe should be told to potential buyers

He stated that I will purchase new tires every 12,000 miles because they cannot be rotated.

I wish I was informed of these issues/quirks before buying the car.

I still love the car but maybe I should have done more homework before purchasing

Your windows might have issues because of the auto up/down feature needed with not having a full door frame. If frozen over, be careful closing the doors, ie don't slam them as the glass can be frozen to the rubber seal.

Your tires and the negative camber associated with the Z will affect tie life. 12k on stockers is par.

Your dealer ans service department are lacking in the brain department.

Not unusual on a sports/sporty car.

That is not "just how this car is." You are under warranty, make 'em fix it. If they give you any static, contact Nissan or go to another dealer.

It's a light car with wide, soft tires. Not really made for high-speed driving on wet or icy roads. If you want to drive in the snow/ice, get a 4WD truck.

The fact that the tires cannot be rotate doesn't have as much to do with tire longevity as does the fact that the factory supplies tires with a fairly soft compound - just like most sports cars have.

It's a sports car; what did you expect? The 370Z is not what I would call a Practical Vehicle - it's a bit on the expensive side to purchase, maintenance ain't cheap, and there's not a back seat.

You're not going to find much sympathy here. Yes, the Z comes with staggered tires. Yes, the Z eats up tires. If that's a problem, then it's your problem for not doing your research beforehand.

In a 12-15 month period, I typically find myself buying a full set of new tires as well as an intermediate set of rear tires as they wear a lot faster than the fronts. It just comes with the sports car territory. I considered running some rear wheels up front for a square set up that would allow me to rotate tires, but I ended up selling that extra set of wheels before ever doing it.

As for the window maintenance item, get it looked at by a dealer (or qualified mechanic). Especially if it's under warranty. If the idiot dealer excuse is that you're not supposed to drive it cold weather, then tell him to pull his head out of his a$$ and go find another dealer that will actually fix the problem. There's a guy in Canada that drives his Z year round and has over 220K miles on it

Default Response

Hello Falconfixer, SouthArk370Z and Jarblue:

Not my first rodeo with sports cars (I've owned convertible sports cars all my life)....but this is my first one with different size tires...I do have another car and also own a motorcycle which I drive in the cold but not in the snow with no problems...I just love driving the 370Z.

The dealer stated he did fix the window problem...so far no problems...but it's been a little warm here the last few days..above freezing...but next week snow is coming....so will see if the windows work properly....if not will try another Nissan dealer.

Thanks for your candid responses...I appreciate your feedback!

I'm located in MD, 15k (+3k on winter set) miles on stock sport 19's and they are still in great shape(I drive slow ). A must are dedicated winter tires and/or wheels for the winter season (got a used set of wheels - stock 18s + winter tires - should set you back at around $1k +/-$300).
Our summer tires get like stones below 35ish F, plus the winter set will preserve your summer set during winter season like a charm .
The window thing, it happens but it's logic, just make sure not to slam the door.
Other than that, it is a great DD for me Plus I drove during this past storm on the winter set, no issues what so ever, never got stuck, plus tons of fun in an empty parking lot

GL with your car, I never regretted getting it as a daily... maybe my friends sometimes, as my wife has the priority over the passenger seat, and nobody wants to ride in the trunk
