First RWD car! 7AT w/ Sport Pkg
Hello fellow enthusiast!
I purchased my 1st RWD vehicle, 2010 Z touring w/Sport Pkg 7AT. I absolutely love the way the car looks and how it sounds even with stock exhaust. I opted for the 7AT and I only have 1 gripe.. I feel this transmission spends a lot of time trying to find the right gear and feels kind of clunky when it downshifts when coming to a stop. I also feel quite a bit of delay between stepping on the accelerator and it actually revving the motor. Anyone else having these issues or concerns? Possibly refinement? Transmission slipping? |

Congrats and welcome!
I, too, have a 7AT and don't experience any of the issues you described. How long have you owned your Z? It will learn your driving habits and that may get rid of some of the gear hunting that you described by changing the automatic shift points. That noted, I drive mine in manual mode most of the time. |

I have a 2014 7AT and usually upon downshifting from 3rd to 2nd to 1st is really sort of harsh, i usually let the car do that shift at lower RPMS. usually though in manual mode the shifts are really quite quick (when the car is at a good temp)

Congrats & welcome As others have mentioned the transmission becomes adaptive to a driving style the more you drive it. drive it in manual mode will sharpen up the shifting. Clunky (also known as positive )shifts are a good thing in this car, that's the converter locking up instead of slipping into gear. This is a great trans & not the slush-boxes of yesterday
Enjoy the ride

OP you should also give the car a chance to learn your driving style, give it a week and it will feel much more comfortable and drive to your ability. The 7AT is nearly flawless for what it is.

Thanks guys. It's a 2010 model and I'm the 2nd owner. Not sure what the first owner may have done. Clean carfax but we all know that means something wasn't reported if something indeed happened. I'm usually about 50/50 when it comes to driving in auto or manual mode.
I did a little research and comes to find out that other people have experienced these same issues. A press on the accelerator accelerator, a delay, the rpm climbs and then the car accelerates. |
