New Owner! Need Help!
I want to replace my Head Unit, But i'm not sure what type to get/ which wire harness is required to keep my steering controls working.
Hoping maybe some of you could show me what you have installed or recommend. I would like mine to have gps/Bluetooth/radio, I'm pretty good at wiring, just never had the opportunity to work on cars, and I think now is the time to learn. Any Help is Greatly appreciated. |

I may be wrong but when I had my aftermarket head unit installed, I was told that steering controls aren't programmed into any unit because every auto manufacturer's steering control wiring is different, or something like that, or it's too much effort for a head unit manufacturer to make programming to work with every car's controls. I am sure there are aftermarket adapters but it can be pricey I would imagine.
My car doesn't have steering controls but I just had a chat with the store owner saying such. I did have to get an aftermarket Bluetooth mic and a separate adapter for my iPod attachment, since my head unit has no input for my USB adapter that my car comes with, I'm ok with both because the mic is better quality and my current iPod adapter is hidden in my glove box instead of on the bottom of the control console, out of sight for theft and cleaner look. -RyanG

Yeah, check out that link.
I put a Pioneer 2DIN in (can't remember the model though) and had the steering wheel controls done up with the PAC module. Controls volume and skips songs, however doesn't work perfectly with presets (will tune normally through each station), but if I hold it down it will cycle throw presets, but really fast so you have to be quick to let off. Don't think I spent more than $500 on everything, including installation. I can do the HU myself, but didn't want to mess with the PAC module and potentially messing something up there. |

Just a footnote on the two different steering wheel modules. I used both and hated the PAC version. It was slow and not particularly head unit friendly.
The Axxess model is easily programmable and can be updated also. It reacts a whole lot faster than the PAC also. |
