Why is it that the giant eagles seem to be the go-to answer for all seemingly lost situations in the LOTR universe? And while they were at it, why couldn't they fly like 50 more miles and land the party next to the mountain?
Vertigo likes this.

Loved it. Felt a bit more "Tolkienish" than the LOTR movies though probably not as accurate as some would want. The 48 frame/3D effect was amazing....just don't sit anywhere near the front of the theater.

of course i loved it.

BUT - i think it became a movie about Thorin Oakenshield instead of the hobbit. It somehow lost the perspective of Bilbo that the book has.

- also i totally agree - just fly up to the damn mountain and skip the next 3 books - the end

I love LOTR, but the protagonists in the first three movies connected with the audience much better.
Maybe it's just me, but I found young Bilbo ho-hum and the slew of dwarves annoying.

I asked the exact same question when the movie ended.
