Car and Driver Blog.
You guys gotta check this out. These guys are trying to constructively criticize the z but it's just bashing because all points are overly subjective.
1. They are stressing bloated looking design To each his own, but people are negating that from a quality stand point the Z looks leagues more expensive than it's competition. From the direct front view the Z does look bloated. Rear to front, it looks muscular. And it's the most muscular affordable jdm, i've seen since the GT-R. 2. Weight.. People keep talking about the Z being heavy. And this is the most unrealistic set of opinions I read when it comes to the Z. The only 6 cylinder that's lighter than it is the porsche Cayman. $33k vs $58k. The v8 corvette which is out of it's power league is the only other one. Both porsche and vette weigh in the 3100lb range. The rest of the v6 competition weighs 3500-3800lbs. We weigh 3300. I would like the next Z to be lighter too but what ever happened to common sense? The FR-S is a 4 banger with no equipment, like BBK, Forged 19's etc... plus its a 4 banger. of course it will be lighter. It's unreasonable that people expect a 400z that weighs 2800lbs. Like really? 3. Gas mileage. This is the only area where people bring a valid point. 26mpg highway for a 300hp v6 is not great. but it's not terrible. True, Gm is doing it with 100 more hp. But v6 was originally designed to be a sub 300hp engine. We are now pushing the limits and this is why I a strong proponent of forced induction for the future. But I also feel... If you're looking at sports cars and your top 3 in complaints is gas mileage? You should be blogging about Honda fits and mazda 2's. Not Z's and corvettes. Thats my rant. Check out the blog. GM gets their gas mileage figure with really tall gearing and a V8 that makes a ton of torque just off idle. Not really a fair comparison with a high strung V6. The weight issue is retarded. Yes, everything is better lighter, but it's 300 lbs lighter than its main price competition.

I wouldn't let that crap bother you. I like all cars in general, but the internet is full of people that think they know everything about cars because they've been playing Gran Turismo for over a decade. Simply put, most people are kind of stupid when it comes to how cars are designed and built. They want it to be lighter and faster, but have no idea how much engineering goes into a production car. They basically want a Ferrari with the fuel efficiency Prius and the price tag of a Civic Si.
-People also like to exaggerate or simply don't understand. The GTO with 400hp is rated at 16-17 city/21-25 hwy while the Z with 332/350hp is 19 city/26 highway, but those number are far from relevant when you're comparing fuel efficiency vs power. What idiots fail to understand is the horsepower rating is meaningless if you're trying to achieve those mpg numbers. When you're stomping on the gas at wide open throttle for a full sprint, you might be looking at single digit mpg's. As far as the 370's fuel economy goes, it really isn't that bad. Direct injection might may help, but that's only going to give you maybe another 1-2 mpg bump. The moment you go for a spirited drive, that number goes out the window anyways. -The exterior design is and always will be subjective. Some will love it, some will hate it. For every 100 people that drools over an Aventador, there's always one a-hole who thinks 'merican muscle is way better cause 'merica! -Weight is always a funny topic because it's been thrown around so easily by just about every so called reviewer with a blog. So people seem to just repeat it like a bunch of parrots. Yes a light car will be easier to move with less horsepower, but the opposite is also true. In certain situations, you want the car to "weight" more to achieve better grip. In the corners for instance. The better number is power to weight ratio, which very few comprehend. I usually stop reading when some wannabe street racer mentions the RB engine or Silvia/240SX. Not to sound like a dic*, but it screams I can't afford a Z but I'd like to be heard. The RB was a great engine, but people love to mention it because they heard it was in the Skyline yo! I mean come on, the VR38DETT was developed using the VQ as a starting point for god's sake. The VQ has also more than proven itself as a reliable and powerful architecture. The only real issue is smoothness. We already know what the VQ37 can accomplish with forced induction. Also, when comparing the Porsche, the Cayman S is the true competition and that car starts at $63,800.

"It's bloody ugly!!" Or something along those lines. I guarantee if you parked next to one of these nincompoops, they'd be all praise about the Z. Meh, if I listened to idiots all day, I wouldn't be driving the Z in the first place. Fvck 'em.

To each his own but the gencoupe is much worse. There's also not much praise in BMW's 320i manual. You could've tried a short shift kit and clutch helper spring mod.
