Our cars bring all types of attention!
Hope you're all doing well today and enjoying your Zs. Thought I'd share a story with the crowd today.
I currently reside within Toronto, due to the weather I have limited the use of my car from April - November. Yesterday was a fairly nice day for this time of year so I said to myself I'll pull the car out. Soon as I did, all the kids were going crazy and you had the "Nice car Mr!" comments flying my way. I decided to take the car for a spin around a few streets, just to get the fluids moving and all. I, as always, was obeying the speed limits posted on the streets and of school zones. I always check my mirrors and blind spots, a good habit to have, while doing this I saw a van behind me, thought nothing of it. As I continued my "circuit" I noticed that this van was still following me and it had been a good 5-7 minutes. Every turn I made it made, every stop I made it made. I grew in my suspicion, so from a red light I gave some extra gas to put distance between us then I let the foot off the gas to see how quickly that distance would close, the van sped up to keep that gap tiny. At this point my suspicion had been confirmed, I turned back onto my street, but said to myself that if I'm being followed, I don't want this person to figure out where I reside. I decided to go to the end of my street, give a left signal to see if the van would, it did, then I switched to a right signal and so did the van at this point I was pretty pissed. I put my hand out the window and told the car to go ahead me, the van instead came next to me and this is how the conversation went. Van man (VM): So, i see you snooping around huh? Me: Snooping around? I have no idea what you're talking about. If anything, you've been following ME off a certain street and its been like that for the past 10 mins or so, you have a problem? VM: I just saw you snooping around, wondering who you are, I live around here, where you live? Me: Oh you live around here eh? Okay what street were we just on then? If you live here you should know. You've been tailing me, to add to that, you have some numbers on your plate scratched out but I can still make them off, and I've memorized your plate, go ahead of me and get going. VM: *uses profanity* and tells me not to tell him what to do. Me: Oh, you're getting pretty defensive and irritated. I'll be honest, I think you're a thief, seeing who is home and not and I startled you. Honestly, you saw my car, tried following me to see where I turn into so you could rob me point blank or my house later on. VM: Oh you think you're so smart blah blah Me: Not really. How about we take a trip to the police station? Or we can wait for the police to come to us? At that point he just drove away while swearing at me. I have a buddy of mine who works for OPP and I asked him to run the plates, as I suspected, the van was a stolen and was being looked for. Bottom line is, our cars bring in attention both good and bad. Always be aware of your surroundings because you never know who has it in for you. Regardless I hope you all have a fantastic day and continue enjoying your Zs. Edit: Punctuation and grammar Last edited by Zyonara91; 03-22-2019 at 07:05 PM. |

That's what they do. Where I live is someone comes down your drive and you are not expecting them, they don't belong. No way I could live in the city anymore.

This is why people in my neighborhood greet that kind of crap with an armed response and questions. 100% private property/roads. Have a reason t o be here or have a problem.

Small towns rock. Everyone knows everyone. If someone new shows up. Neighbors know.

You're making it sound like an old western town from the 1870s. Once that stranger enters on his horse, everyone peers from the windows and shadows as he passes by! And sometimes the women get excited. LOL!!!

I don't drive like a maniac and pretty much chill but the only unwanted attention I get have been from cops and anyone with a v8 in front of him. None from creepy van types like you see in the movies.

This is the way to handle thieves and robbers. Make them worm dirt.
