Firewood for the house
What kind do you prefer? Suggestions?
We haven't used the fireplace much in the last few years. Had two ricks delivered last week. One of red oak and the other white oak. So far I'm not digging the red oak based on smell. Going to try walnut and what ever else the dude has available next go around. I do enjoy it when I'm drinking which is mostly every day when I'm not in the field training. Just staring I into the flames is bliss. The burnt smell after the fire place has been emptied the next day is irritating. 8 or 9 beers in so far, hopefully this makes sense |

Colorado here, so I get my choice of pine or pine pretty much.
With the pine beetle kills we've had for a few years now though, and the forest service actively asking people to haul off the dead trees, at least you can get a truckload of pre-split for super cheap - so there's that. |

I have been burning white oak and maple this year, just because that is what was ready to be burned. I really dont have a preference, as long as it burns good.

Live oak and pecan mostly here. The pecan is a little smoky for my liking.
But I love that campfire smell even after the fire is out.

We have a variety of trees to burn here in MI. We burn every weekend at the campsite and I burn 6mo. out of the year to heat house and water.
Generally 20 cords of wood here at a time are ready to go. Using some scraps from the pallet making process lately. Mostly oak. cheap from the Amish guys and a lot less work. 4' x 4'round bundles for $5.00. A lot of Ash trees died over the last few years. Very sad. Beautiful trees, but the little emerald ash boring bug had no enemies and ravaged everything.
